Well I did it again, every once and awhile, every year or so I can tired of the current look of the site and spontaneously decided to redo the a whole thing.
Well last night I had this urge, I've been up all last night and all day today working on it.
Its not done yet, put its at a point where its useable, so I made it LIVE.
The header borrows from the new CBC website design. The whole design of the site is a lot simpler looking that before. Also easier to read, more open white spaces, not as cramped.
I also finally decided to cast aside the 800pixel resolution limit I have always kept the site at. Looking at the web logs, only around 11% of CKA visitors run 800*600 and below. So now the site will fit into a 1024 resolution, but will look best on 1280. This allows more room and more open space, less cramming.
I also simplified some other things, the "members" block is reduced, there is no longer a login box in it. There is a login box in the far top left. As well as a login and register link in the top middle. These links turn into your private message indicators when logged in.
Gold Members will see a few ads for awhile, Not done doing that part. plus there will be a large open space on the front-page when the ads are gone. So going to come up with something useful in its place for Gold Members.
any suggestions are welcome!
And as always and comments, suggestions or complaints are more than welcome! I hope people like the new look.

Could you move the 'recent topics' module up further on the page? I kinda like having it right there when I visit the page. That way it doesn't take any effort on my part to scroll to find it.
Of course, that's just me.
Unless it's just a firefox problem at the moment. IE doesn't exist on my computer anymore. :/

I guess i should checked FF before making it live, lol. DAMN!
Its all messed up in Firefox, all the spacing is wrong, why i dunno, its all CSS.
Now this is going to be getting it working in FF.
--------
Some things left to do
make new feature section images, the old ones are too large, there scaled righ tnow and look like shit.
Make a whole bunch of header graphics to go in rotaion.
comb site for messed up things.
profile page is rather messed up
more/different ads on front-page rotation.
fix menu in blog
move sub section menus into blank space beside menu.
fix space under recent topics on forum index for guests.

Hey CKA, congrats on the new look! It's really looking sharp and the whole issue of looking extremely crammed is gone.
It's funny you liked the idea of the new cbc-look, because I was thinking the same thing a couple of days ago when I went to work on re-organising the CC overall header.
Also, the new design is able to truly showcase the amount of content CKA has built up over the past few years. It makes the site look bigger.
Question: Do you plan on doing what you did before with the randomised logos except this time in place of the mountie-girl?

No worries, he will remove them once he's finalised the code.

grr
Though rig is @ 1600x1200, my browser is at half that, allowing for irc and ee (everything else) on the right side.
Oh well... ;D
Site looks cleaner though.

Takes a little bit of gettin' used to. Last night i was lookin' for the logout button,(was at top), for 10 min. Didn't see it was on the right side, near the search box. Kinda small...
Also kinda miss the Home button, if i ever wanted to start from the main page again. Or is it there n i just don't see it?
Site is a lot more spaced out than before....

I tried it on all the settings and it fits my taste best on 1152 X 864 nice and centered with just a narrow edge on both sides.

I like the overall look and feel of it for sure. Navigating was a little more difficult as things I am so used to being in a certain spot have moved but that's just something I'll get used to. What about no ad's for Gold members?

Well, I don't hate it, but I do find it a bit crunched together. Which is what I liked about the old one...Had good space, like Canada.

I admire the effort and work you put in here, so don't take this as criticism, but I though the original way had a more professional look. Agian not to critic but you did ask for opinions.
Cheers

I think it looks great!! My screen is set at the 1280 res anyway so it looks great!
It is taking some getting used to, but that's to be expected! I would also like to see the forums list at the top of the page, like what crystalsm was saying.
As for gold members, what about something like....Canadian comic strips or....Something canadiana? I'll have a think on it lol
