An American Union?

In a similar concept of Europe's EU? Recent events, statements, and plain logic conclude me to think that the US, Canada, and Mexico will form the begginnings of a larger AU.

What say you?

Not unless the influence of the US can be limited in the same way the influence of Germany was limited in the EU. In other words, if you're dictating the terms there is no union.

Of course. Are you afraid we would? That just seems awfully fearful. It would and will be an equal partner arrangement.

Just been reading statements about further economic integration and defence sharing. This is how we set up and began the EU ball rolling after WW2. It seems like an inevitability with us all.

I think in the long run, maybe 100 years this will happen. the entire globe will become union blocks, EU, Canmerican union, African Union, Asian Union.

But the way the US is playing ball it won't be happening anytime soon.

Or the way the planet wants to blame the US for everything for that matter.

If the Quebecois separatists have their way then Canada will be divided in two and the central western Provinces will likely want to join up with the USA. Alberta would do so at the very least and I'm guessing Manitoba would be a close second.

Canada either needs to really firm up its economy and culture or it will end up fracturing along cultural lines.

The weakest link in the chain is Quebec. Integrating Quebec by disabusing them of their discriminatory language laws and making English the national lingua franca would be a big step in stabilising Canada so that it will still be Canada come the year 2100.

What do Canada, Mexico, and (maybe?) Central America bring to the table?

If anything, I think this would dilute America's authority and autonomy.

wow thats a pretty ignorant comment.

Canada has the 9th Largest Economy on the planet
Mexica has the 11th
http://www.corporations.org/system/top100.html

Canada has a huge amount of natural resources and industry.

One example video game industry, 3 major players in the field, all in Canada.
EA (largest game producer)
ATI (largest graphics chips producer)
ALIAS (largest 3d software company)

Bad timing. Canada would not support an AU now or anytime in the near future I'm guessing.
