Americans I think are more driven to success because of the media and the way they push Success through material things, better houses, more money and other "material things".

Success for me is to be happy, love my wife, family, friends, do good to those less fortunate, and being able to live comfortable enough that I can have my own house and car, and save for a comfortable retirement.

To me, it is like winning a large jackpot. I would keep some of it, but would give a lot of it to my friends and family who I care for, especially if they are struggling personally or financially.

[/B]Money and possessions are not everything!!!

Yeah, a lot of people in america want to improve their financial status. Why is that so bad? Its not like there arent investment bankers in Toronto who work 70 hours a week at a job they hate to make a lot of money, nor is it like there arent millions of people in the american suburbs who cut back on their hours and professional ambition in order to raise their family and find that kind of happiness.

I think a lot of times the people on this forum overstate the differences between canadians and americans. I mean, it seems like some of you take one trip to NYC in your life and then come on this forum and state "canadians are a lot more laid back than americans". Well duh, NYC is the most anal city in the world, come to parts of the midwest or southwest and you can't get much more laid back.

As do Canadians by and large. Finding an acceptable balance in life is the challenge that faces us all. "The pursuit of happiness" is different things to different people at different times in their lives. What I wanted at 25 isn't the same as is important to me now at 45. The trick is realizing that what's important now isn't likely going to be the same thing that's important to you 20 years from now. Bottom line, enjoy life on the first go around; there's no guarantees that there's a second kick at the cat.

As an old fart, I'd say that historically there's been less difference betwixt Canadians and Americans than those in charge of either country would prefer to have us believe. Your bigshots would have you believe that we're a hotbed of Islamic fundamentalism while many here would have us believe tht GWB is truly representative of the heart of the States. I don't bvelieve either for a moment. But then again, as an old fart, I have nothing to prove by stepping up to the line to go toe-to-toe either. Life's too short to be taken too seriously. Carpe diem and all that.

From what I know, my heritage comes from the MacMillan Clan. Sorry about the necropost by the way, didn't see how old the last post was.
