Very strange. On the Mexican border, they will accept dollars without any problems. I guess it is more of a convience thing if anything, but I can understand because the peso was never accepted on the other side(though there is nothing stopping that from happening).

lily lily: $1: Who's responsible for this? Harper or Bush? Bush. Our dollar isn't up - the American dollar is down.
Thought our dollar has been going up for awhile, not the US one going down but maybe Toro can enlighten us.

When I was in Mexico they wouldnt take Canadian currency if they thought you might have some US dollars in your wallet. In Europe and everywhere else I have been American currency has been the most sought after,OPP is going to kick in about the Euro now.
His conspiracy has come to light.

At the night clubs in downtown Toronto, American money is always accepted AT PAR...last night, last week, last month, even last year... regardless of the exchange rate. Now i know this is not the norm for all business but it is done and without complaint.
Anyone who is offended that the American dollar is not accepted needs to just calm down and remember that they are visitors and that legal tender in Canada is the Canadian dollar.

At the risk of sounding like a tin foiler.... when we were in Europe we used Euros, except when we were in Norway, where we used Krones, since they're not a part of the EU. No-one asked for American dollars at all, and I doubt they would have been accepted. But then you didnt open your wallet and flash a few of those greenbacks, things would have been different if you did.

proudcanukchick proudcanukchick: There's plenty of Canadians who travel to the US as well. They've never been concerned about pissing us off. Why should we, now that the tables are turned?
I guess it's a sore spot with me, because we've had some pretty arrogant ones here over the years. Personally, I think it'll do a few of them (just the arrogant ones) some good to have a little taste of humble pie.
My thoughts precisely.

Correct. The US dollar is down against the world market in general.

Sure, but "Merican" dollars are still the preffered currency.
They didnt have the Euro when I was in Europe but American dollars were the only thing you could bribe officials with, same with Mexico.

And when was it that you were in Europe? Euros are the preferred currency. The only place I saw options on the price tag was in Liechtenstein, where you could pay in Euros or Swiss Francs. Bout the same time the 50 cent guilders would pass as quarters in the pinball machine's here in the pool hall.

Many Americans seem to have not noticed this, hence the worthless Canadian dollar jokes continue.
