That article is so much bullshit it makes me sick. Perhaps if she ever left Toronto, she would meet other Canadians. To generalize all of Canada by some bad experience in Toronto makes her a bad "journalist". I personally know many "americans" living in Canada, and even though i hate Bush, I would never treat them with disrespect unless they deserved it. I think this article points out her shortcomings most of all.

She is a Medical Socialogist and she has a point. We do everything she said ... we act like a bunch of asses with an inferiority complex.

Our media constantly compares "us" to Americans. Maybe we need to take a look at that?

hmmm

Godz46 Godz46:
She was describing the general feeling in Canada regarding the US. She wasn't describing events that happned to her, but how Canadians think in general.

Total BS. How would she know what the general feeling of all Canadians towards the us is, after living in Toronto for five years. Typical anti-Canadian bullshit. :x

Perhaps if that's true, Canadian are sick of being called the 51st state, or American's little cousin. The fact is WE ARE NOT AMERICAN. If that is offensive to americans than so be it, I don't give a rat's ass. I would still like to know how one american's time in Toronto can enable her to judge all Canadians that way. As for that, how can you? Have you travelled all of Canada, have you asked all Canadians there opinion of the us. I didn't think so, so please stop claiming to know what all Canadian think as to the us.

I believe Canada often goes a little far comparing Canada to the USA. But no matter how good someone is (or a country) they will always compare themselves to others. Canada just chose to compare itself to its neighbours. But if you think, Canada is "Sleeping next to an elephant" because if (persay) the US economy drops, so does ours. If theirs goes up, so does ours.

Again I'll ask, where do you hear all this Anti-americanism. Do you travel across the country taking people opinions. I didn't think so, I think it's your own hatred of Canada that leads you to write these things. Are you trying to tell me you've never heard Canada described as the 51st. state, oh your anti-Canadianism is loud and clear.

Could it be true? Do we lean on the 49th a little too much. Have we leaned on the nieghbors fence for so long that our right wing has atrophied?

GODZ is right in a lot of ways ... we whine too much ... for 32 million people, we are a commanding country on the world stage .. we do o.k. ...

We need a military but that is considered unCanadian to think such a thing.

Canadians are always somewhat sheepish when it comes to patriotism and nationalism ...

I suggest we diversify our trade (trade with many other countries instead of primarily the US), compare ourselves to a wider variety of nations and recreate our military into something that protects us more comprehensively and at the same time, enhances our economy instead of other countries economies (i.e. the US economy).

I agree with this article but in reverse because I've experienced everything Nora Jacobsen has experienced but as a Canadian living in the USA. All the anti-Americanism she feels in Canada...I receive the same anti-Canadian sentiments here in the USA. So neither country should feel holier than thou when it comes to our attitudes to the other.
