There have been a lot of samsquanch reports up those parts. Eye witnesses report an unshaven, unkempt troglodyte clad in mud-soaked, mutton-matted tartan of the Clan Donald. It's not so much the anger or stupidity that witnesses most recollect. Mostly they recall the smell.

I believe you are mistaken. At best, the pride of Clann Domhnall can be found in the Cowichan district sipping Pinot Gris, maybe some particularly hoppy IPAs, and supping on salmon and goat cheese.

It's Clann Frisealach that spends most of its time bare arsed, fling shite, and waxing pedestrian on economics.

Wells Gray Provincial Park sounds about right for you. It's a couple hours away from Kamloops and fits the bill for being quiet and isolated, with lakes, rivers and mountains.

In the eyes of someone from Britain, with 63,181,775 people packed into an area the same size as Michigan, EVERYWHERE in Canada is isolated.

It boggles the mind that Canada is the same size as the whole of Europe, but whereas Europe (3,930,000 sq mi) has 739 million people Canada (3,854,085 sq mi) has just 33 million.

Yeah, the cold keeps the assholes out - so we don't have as many people as a lot of other countries!

Having said that - it's awesome to drive for a couple hours and be in a world class park filled with stunning scenery and wildlife - unlike all the Europeans who have to spend 10 hours flying here to see the same thing!

Want isolated? Fly from Prince George to Vancouver at dusk. It's like a miniature of that night-time satphoto of North Korea.
Look! There's a LIGHT over there...
There's only one road that goes west to the coast in that whole half the province.

What brought that home to me is reading that the Fraser River drainage alone is larger than all of Britain or England, forget which. Or that Vancouver Island is the size of Holland.

When I taught English in Japan, one of the ways I used to get across just how big Canada was, was to compare them in size.

By geographic size, you could fit 27 Japans in Canada (or two into Alberta or BC), yet Japan has four times the population of Canada or 30 times that of Alberta. That always got a gasp or two from people.

Just don't tell them that a lot of Canada is just frozen muskeg and nobody wants to live there, we prefer to cluster together in a few cities. Aren't we one of the most urban countries in the world?

Looked it up. We're in the top fifty ahead of UK, Italy and Germany. 82% of us live in urban communities.

I've flown between Grand Prarie, Whitehorse, Fort McMurrary and Yellowknife many times, and it's pretty much all the same. One light, once in a while. I prefer the day though, such beautiful country from 10,000 feet.
