DundasBill DundasBill:
The signs all seem to be there:
- for about the past two years, long before parity or new border rules tourism from the US has plummeted.

Long before parity, the US dollar was depreciating against the Canadian dollar.

Benoit Benoit:
Instead of asking if the US is disengaging itself from Canada, we should ask if Canada is engaging itself enough to prevent terrorists from crossing our common border.

Which way? North or south? South of the border is not our problem; it's theirs. Terrorists come from Canada? Fine. It's up to the ever so powerful and intelligent American border guards to root them out and prevent them from crossing, not Canada. Then again, its up to Canada to root out and prevent people like them ever existing.

For example, Canada could try a biometric ID card.

Tman1 Tman1:
Why?

Because there is this impression worldwide that Canadian papers can be easily forged.

What about American papers? How many illegal immigrants do you think live in the U.S?

Illegal immigrants in the US don't have any American papers.

Only if you are a hot chick, 18 and older preferably. Internationally intelligent to a degree would be a bonus.

It would demonstrate our engagement.

I'm afraid the engagement is off.
