I think I have finally figured it all out. The difference between the US and Canada is that American historical mini-series are about things like the US Civil War and slavery.

CBC is making a mini-series about the 1972 summit series. I'm sure they will sneak a politician in there somewhere though, but at least it doesn't revolve around one.
