And Canada doesn't even have a university like Yale or Harvard where Bush went to study, and people call him stupid...hmm, very interesting.

There are two groups of people who go to those colleges: Very smart, creative people, and people with rich families and/or political affiliations.

Guess which group Bush was in.

Therefore, this kind of makes me wonder if going against the US is the true patriotism. It only just sounds like "We envy Americans but we can't say that, can we? So we will just stick to our country and hate America". to me. What's your opinion?

Part of maintaining or forming our national identity has to be keeping the US from swallowing us in their apparent scheme of world domination. While we should be able to focus on creating our own ideals, we are constantly forced to put up barriers both to keep the US from coming over into Canada, and to keep Canadians from dragging the US over the border as well (I'm not talking about immigration, I'm talking about culture and such).

Agreed. A very high potential to degenirate into a litany of insults directed at either country. We've got beer and the CFL on tonight and no reason to argue, unless your a (gasp) montreal fan (not you Tman1, I know your not!).

When I was registering, it says that racism is not allowed. But the thing is, this website is pretty much Anti-America and even admin is against the US, and what should I say about this? Isn't this a part of racism? I just find a full of inconsistency here, so can anybody answer this question? thanks.

You're mistaking nationalism for racism.

No, I don't think there's racism here (or not too much):

racism

n 1: the prejudice that members of one race are intrinsically superior to members of other races 2: discriminatory or abusive behavior towards members of another race
(from dictionary.com)

Americans aren't really a whole other race. They're really a lot like us, a real bag of mixed nuts. But, let's try bigotry on for size:

bigotry

n : the intolerance and prejudice of a bigot

big·ot

n. One who is strongly partial to one's own group, religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ.
(also from dictionary.com)

Ah, that's a bit closer.

Thing is, it SEEMS more common here than it is, really. One of the reasons I like hanging out here is that this is a very pro-Canadian site, without being TOO anti-American.

Not to say you won't see some of that here, you will, but genrally the attitude of most posters here towards our neighbors to the south is pretty warm. I've met a goodly number of folks born and raised in the US, and as a rule, they're every bit as decent as the Canadians I've met. Now, there is certainly no lack of assholes here in the great white north, so it just stands to reason there's the same percentage of them south of the border.

With the recent political tensions between Canada and the US, though, a lot of anti-American Canadians are speaking out, and making a lot of noise. As a rule, they're often terribly guilty of bigotry. US citizens are no more the gun-totin', red-necked intolerant uneducated bastards than we are toque-wearing beaver-pelt-hunting dog sledders. There are a lot of mistaken notions on both sides. The best thing about these boards is that there's a lot of really great folks from the US here, and that makes it a great place for us to wash away some of that stupid crap.

I have a goodly number of anti-American friends, and I always used to send them to a link on the Filibuster Cartoon site. The young fellow that does that is fairly pro-American and there used to be an excellent essay there by a Canadian journalist, ranking on fellow Canadians for their anti-American ways. Justifiably. If anyone has another link to that essay, please share. It seems to have gone AWOL from Filibuster Cartoons. That's really the kind of thing that should get posted here once every quarter or so.

Anyway, welcome, Canadaluvv!

Read more of the threads…your “assessment” of the site’s political leanings might change after actually immersing yourself in its culture.

$1:
“Isn't this a part of racism?”

Is there racism here? Yes, unfortunately…is this alleged anti-American (not established) racist? Are “Americans” an identifiable race? I’ll await the response to this one.

$1:
“I just find a full of inconsistency here, so can anybody answer this question? thanks.”

Acquire more information before you note an “inconsistency” first – seems like a rather knee-jerk conclusion.
