Canadian Legislator Calls U.S. 'Idiots'
Canadian Member of Parliament Carolyn Parrish had said she hated "damned Americans" and called them bastards in the run-up to the Iraq war. She found a new moniker, idiots, on Wednesday in discussing the planned U.S. missile defense system.

Lets put it in context.

$1:
Outspoken Canadian MP calls US 'idiots'

August 26 2004 at 07:57PM

Ottawa - It was "damned bastards" last year, "idiots" this year.

Canadian parliamentarian Carolyn Parrish had said she hated "damned Americans" and called them bastards in the run-up to the Iraq invasion. She found a new moniker, idiots, on Wednesday in discussing the planned United States missile defence system.

"We are not joining the coalition of the idiots. We are joining the coalition of the wise," the Liberal legislator told a small group of demonstrators.

Parrish, who had to apologise for her "bastards" remarks last year, at first denied using the word idiots, and when reporters pointed out they had her remarks on tape, she said: "I don't mean Americans are idiots."

Parrish then begged reporters not to use the remarks: "Please guys don't put that on tape," she said. "I already got into trouble once... Really, please, I've had enough trouble."http://www.iol.co.za/index.php?set_id=1&click_id=22&art_id=qw1093525383800B230

Are you with the coalition of idiots Eric?

To bad she had to beg, it makes her look bad. She should have stood behind her words.

I have no problem with this, I would prefer to be with the coalition of the wise as well. Maybe your Idiots coud have a hockey game against our Wise some day Eric. Sounds like fun.

you are such a dumb-ass...when you speak out against a certain group of people...that is no better then racism. Sure it was group of Americans that believe different the her this time, what if she said Native Indians or Chinese...bet you wouldn't have the same mind set....what a dumb ass! For the record I don't agree with the American government but I don't think that someone speaking on behalf of a large group of Canadians should talk shit like that.....

Calling American politicians idiots is the same as racism?

$1:
and when reporters pointed out they had her remarks on tape, she said: "I don't mean Americans are idiots."

Let me remind you what your Coalition of Idiots has done over the last few years:

1) Assured the entire world that WMD'd existed in Iraq and Saddam was ready to use them.

2) Ciritcized the Canadians, the French and other countries when we refused to join the war effort.

3) Renamed French Fires "Freedon Fries" at the White House, because the French were not duped into following blindly.

OK, thats just the tip of the iceburg here my friend. Now before you go, look up ICBM and let me know who has the money, the technology and the desire to launch aganist America? And even if you come up with an answer for that...why would we as Canadians want or care to spend money protecting folks who really have no care or consideration for us or the rest of the world.

that is not the issue...the issue was the comment she made, there is no place for that in politics...if you represent a group of people you should be better spoken then that. I agree with you Donny about the U.S and the mistakes they made, don't get me wrong. For a politician to resort to name calling and generalizing like that is just plain wrong!

I admire her. Unlike many leaders she's not backing down. Finally someone stands there ground. Good for her. And what she said is right. Idiot means misguided. And that is what this coalition is.
Comments like that have no place in pollitics? I've been to parliment and watched them debate. They're like children yelling at each other. You need headphones to hear people answering questions because of all the yelling. Mulroney called someone a bitch. Trudeau said "fuddle duddle". Good for Carolyn Parrish.

Yes but these comments were aimed at a particular person not a group. And there are ..like it or not a percentage of people that support the whole american stance. I for one don't but to generalize such a large group of people is wrong. In my opinion she can express herself in many other ways then calling people idiots. Like it or not when the American media takes it..all they see is AMERICANS ARE IDIOTS. Not good for relations!

True that those comments by Trudeau and Mulroney were aimed at one person. But maybe Americans need to hear this. Your best friend is the one who tells you that you're wrong, or that you're making a stupid mistake. Some Americans do support the war, should that stop people from speeking there mind? Plus she said "coalition of the idiots". That includes Britain, and many other countries. Who cares if people are offended? If a country goes to war illegaly they should be prepared for other nations to have an opinion. It's better to have leaders that speak there mind then leaders who try to please everyone.

It is one thing to say they are doing something stupid, or illegal or even criminal. It is a completely different thing to label people as idiots...I just think somsone in politics should be better at choosing their words. Besides Canada made our stance by not getting involved. This is not her first time running off at the mouth and I don't think it is acceptable.

Well, the first time it was because someone overheard what she was saying. Granted "idiots' was not the brightest thing to say, but it is true. And she wasn't calling all Americans idiots, just the coalition. She has only bad mouthed leaders, not the American public.

I'm not convinced that Georgie has a high enough IQ to qualify as an idiot. What's the official level below that?

Let's have a look at the coalition of the idiots though.

There's Georgie and his PNAC pals...definitely not too bright. If they had a working brain among them the coming election would just be a formality and the USA would be one of the best-liked countries on the planet. They tossed that away because of personal greed and a lack of foresight. They could very well lose the coming election and the USA is likely the most reviled country on this little blue orb.

There's Tony Blair, Maggie Thatcher's bastard son. He was incredibly popular before the whole Iraq thing. His policies were making what was perceived to be a positive difference. He's a young man and could have had a long career in politics, then retired to speak at universities and boff his groupies. Now he is hated and mistrusted in his own country and abroad, his political career depends on the Tories being even stupider and nobody else in Labour being overly willing to clean up Tony's mess. Maggie's bastard son spends more time trying to hide from Iraq than boasting about his accomplishments.

The rest of the coalition ae there because they swung trade deals or were threatened with losing aid, either directly from the US or through the World Bank and IMF. Spain is gone though, and others are looking to get out. Their people know this war stinks of corruption and lies and most rulers must face their people at some point.

Is it a coaltion of idiots? Depends on your definition...Only the leaders of the US and Great Britain are idiots...maybe Australia, but they have to do something with all those sheep. The rest aren't too bright, but they weren't really willing either. They were bribed or bullied, often both, into signing up.

It reflects poorly on us as Canadians, when an elected official is incapable of discussing important issues without labelling as idiots and morons, those with whom she disagrees. This is the debating style of an eight year old.

She is an embarrassment.

I disagree, she said what she thought. It's not like she called them a bunch of murderous genocidal criminally insane creeps. This is an important issue and making nice for the sake of decorum is for fawners and pretenders to do. The important part of what she said is that she was opposed to the BMD system and what it would lead to. The big deal being made of her calling those who were for it a coalition of idiots is solely to deflect attention from the real issue and that is the damage that the BMD system would do. The defenders of the staus quo don't want to discuss the repercussions of expanding nuclear arms inventories though, they want to focus on who called who an idiot. What a joke.
