Ann Coulter is known for being obnoxious. It's part of her spiel. I don't think that she actually believes half of what she is saying. As far as Americans making fun of Canada goes, I think it is usually good natured. I lived in Alaska for a few years, and when I moved back to the "Lower 48" I got many of the same questions that Canadians are used to hearing. "Hey did you live in an igloo? Did you have tv? Did you take a dogsled to school?" Are these questions annoying? Yes, but harmless. In an awkward way they may just be an icebreaker to hear more about where you are from. There are many stereotypes about each of the States, and they are often used to poke fun. I'm not Canadian, so I'm not sure what kinds of comments that you guys have gotten in the past. Just saying that in my experience the Canada jokes have been harmless ones. In contrast I've heard some pretty cutting comments from the north that weren't in jest.
As for Fox News. I don't think they deserve the moniker "Fair and Balanced" because everyone knows they are going to get news from a conservative stand point, but i think this was much needed. The reason they are so successful, is because there is a market for conservative leaning news. People just weren't getting that from the major networks.

I woudln't think that news should lean either way... or both ways equally... but that's just me.

It probably shouldn't, but it does. The tilt may not even be intentional. I forget the actual percentage but it was somewhere between 80-90% of network news execs were democrats. Since they would probably share the same point of view on an issue, they might not see a problem with covering a story on controversial subjects like gay rights or abortion etc. The stories may not be outright biased, but to someone that doesn't share the same point of view it will be biased.

Ok? Probably because people make assumptions about them simply because they are from America.

Wrong mate, I've seen how they act. Everything is why isn't there such and such as in the states? How come this is so expensive compared to the states...etc etc etc.
As far as I'm concerned if you don't like it, then don't come here

Again...ok? Those are the ones you've met, so again you are going to make assumptions that all Americans are whiners. So for example if you met a guy with a US flag lapel pin on you would automatically harbor some bias towards him, even though he might be a really cool guy that you could get along with.

Of course not. That would be childish. I have a very good friend who has lived here for 9 years and she is from Chicago. A fantastic lady an she has been married to a Kiwi for almost 9 years as well.
What I am stating is the ones who do come here and expect everything to be the exact same way as it is in their neck of the woods, only to pop a gasket when it doesn't. Or they actually expect better service because they proclaim "I'm an American & I should be treated better". And that mate is an exact quote from not too long ago!

Well, that guy is an asshat. Nobody in the States probably likes him either. Every country has those guys. I'm sure Italians come to the US and complain about our sphagetti, Germans come here and complain about our beer (Well everyone complains about our beer.) No big deal.

That's not very nice, Acid...
Uboat, while travelling around Europe, you could *totally* tell the difference between the Canadian and the American tourists. The Americans stand out a LOT. It's hard to peg why, but something about their volume, tone, mannerisms...
Rar also can anyone please explain to me why you would bring an infant travelling with you?? It makes NO SENSE to me, it's a hassle for you and it pisses off everyone around you when your kid starts wailing on a tour that's hard enough to hear as it is... [/offtopicrant]

Got to wonder if they always leaned that way or if becoming enlightened about world events pushed them that way. Kind of a what came first, the chicken or the egg question.
Are they news execs because they support Democrats, or do they support Democrats because they are very in tune with current events? Just a thought.
