the thing is americans show their hatred of canada through their media especially on news channels (just to name a few like fox and cnn), americans have the mentality that we canadians live in snow and shit and ride on dog sleds all the time... my question is have you ever been in canada? america relies on canada through our natural resources (hydro etc.) don't tell canda what to do cause we have a better leader than your stupid ass president

Wow, your post is just as hateful as those Americans you accuse of things, and just as ignorant. As much as the US relies on Canada, Canada also makes billions on their trade with the US. Canada exports around 2/3 of their exports to the US, while the US only imports 1/5 from Canada. A shut down of the borders would greatly effect both our countries. Also, I don't have a mentality that Canadians live in snow and ride on dog sleds all the time, so you can SHOVE IT

I only hear good things about Canada from other Americans.

We don't hear a lot of that around here, chikkabam.

angel102 angel102: the thing is americans show their hatred of canada through their media especially on news channels (just to name a few like fox and cnn), Can you name a single program in the US that regularly expresses hatred for Canada? I've lived in the NYC area for all of my 47+ years (except my years in college and law school) and have heard almost nothing negative about Canada. True, once in a while one of your MP's or government officials will show themselves to be members of an "idiot coalition" or "morons" or "b@st@rds" but you don't hear anything like the vitriol your politicians show for Americans. angel102 angel102: americans have the mentality that we canadians live in snow and shit and ride on dog sleds all the time... Watching too much Rick Mercer lately? angel102 angel102: my question is have you ever been in canada? About 7 1/2 times: 1) Quintes Isle, Prince Edward County, ON, for a few days in 1972; 2) Toronto (weekend with North York family, April 1973); 3) Niagara Falls (that's the 1/2 visit) on the way to Western US on 1973 summer teen tour; 4) American Thanksgiving weekend in Montreal in 1976, right after Levesque elected; 5) Short visit to Montreal to dry off from 1977 hike in Adirondacks; 6) Weekend in Quebec City, 1979; 7) Another weekend in Quebec City, 1986; Banff-Calgary, week in 1992; 9) Algonquin Provincial Park (after trip to Toronto ended by heat and pregnant wife, 1997). I found the trips thoroughly enjoyable, though I did learn about anti-Americanism during 1973 Toronto trip. angel102 angel102: america relies on canada through our natural resources (hydro etc.) don't tell canda what to do cause we have a better leader than your stupid ass president
How would Canada's social programs, including EI checks, fare if Canada had to defend its border with US? (hint, it's having trouble with its Danish border).

Rev_Blair Rev_Blair: We don't hear a lot of that around here, chikkabam. Maybe these boards are hateful or something, I never hear anyone in real life bash Canada. All of my friends think Canada is great and everyone else thinks...it's just kinda there. There's no reason to bash it because it's just a great country that has good beer.

...and yet if you read the posts by Americans, here and elsewhere, you find there's a lot of Canada bashing. There are plenty of exceptions, but a lot of Americans seem to show up here start wars...unable to differentiate between criticism of their government's policies (or sometimes the Canadian government's policies) and personal attacks.
A long time ago I used to just let it slide, but now I talk back.
$1: Can you name a single program in the US that regularly expresses hatred for Canada?
It's more like your conservative commentators take turns, JBG. O'Reilly is likely the worst though.

It's not really Canada bashing as much as it's them trying to defend their country. But if you were to talk to people here in Oregon (not on the internet) you would hear nothing but good things about Canada.

I agree, Americans frankly don't discuss/think about Canada too often. If they do, it's one of two things ... "I went fishing in Canada" or "I want to move to Canada to get away from the Right Wing wackos."
I see far more America bashing then the other way around, and I'm an American who admires Canada.
If anyone bashes Canada, it's in defense, or it's a Bush supporter who is bitter because Liberals are considering immigration.
Canada is generally NOT a topic of conversation in the States.

We do get mostly Bush supporters at Canadian sites though. There are a few Americans who aren't, especially since the election. You have to remember that most of what is perceived as bashing Americans is criticism of your government. I don't think most Americans have the slightest idea how their policies effect us. They come here and we say bad things about their government. Well, if our government was devastating entire industries in your country, you might have a thing or two to say as well.

Sorry to disappoint here.
I am a born and bred Yank, NY-based Clinton and Gore voter. who probably, all things considered, has as many friends in Canada as I have in the US... I post on two other boards, one almost entirely Canadian:
http://p069.ezboard.com/bfranksters77603
and one of my own, on which a number of Canadians post, and on which Canuckistan has its own separate board category:

I watched the coverage of the last Canadian elections from poll-close to finish on my United States television, and on the 'net as well, and while I would have been happier had Harpo emerged with a majority, I certainly understand the result, given Canadian demographics. Yes, many Yankers are entirely ignorant of Canadian political issues and questions, but by no means all of us are... my oldest friend here, who lives in the VERY Yank town of Bronxville, New York, just finished reading a biog of Diefenbaker, for god's sakes... seriously, how many of you can boast of anything even roughly equivalent?

I was actually directed to this site while doing some research on the war of 1812. I came across these articles on a CFL website of all places, and I'm still boiling. I know everyone is entitled to their opinions, but come on!
I'm sure you've all seen this
