Avro Avro:

Anyone remember a guy named Bret Hull? I didn't agree with what he did and I don't agree with what this missy is trying to do.

I never had a problem with Hull doing that, he had dual citizenship and team Canada didn't want him so he joined the U.S. squad.

As far as the skater is concerned, to me it is more about "what do I get after I win". I suppose she feels a medal win would get her more money and recognition in the USA, to bad she feels that way.

Actually.. Avro.. (hey welcome back good to see you...)..
Hull never played for Canada becuase Team Canada turned thier backs on Bobby Hull after he left the NHL for the rival WHA. Bobby Hull should have been on that team in 1972 but league politics kept him off it. Brett always said he would never play for team Canada.. because of the way they treated his dad. Adam Deadmarsh tried out for canada's team but didn't make it... then used his dual citizenship to play for the USA

Who cares? Let her go if that's what she wants.

In 1998, the Japanese men's ice hockey team had 6 Canadians and an American on it (the so-called seven samurai), and others like Nedved (who defected) got to play for teams other than their own nationality at other Winter Olympics. Hell, Nedved and company almost won us gold in Lillehammer...

I got my version of the reason he played for the US from Brett's uncle Dennis. He never mentioned Bobby being any part of Brett's decision.

Belbin did America proud... winning a Silver Medal! And she became an American citizen like on December 30th by an act of Congress...

Wow! What a deal!

Who knows why she chose to become American... she just ended up on my side of the border like many folks do.

U.S. speed skater, Shani Davis, doesn't get along with the U.S. skating team and trained in Canada... I am sure he damn near considered becoming Canadian.

I see that a lot of Olympic athletes have feet in two different countries. We just lucked out getting Belbin.

I had so much fun watching the Canadian Women's Hockey Team... I'm still humming O Canada.... Hey! Wouldn't that be cool if we could get hockey team to defect. If an American gets a gold medal, they can get cash awards and six figure endorsement deals. What does does a Canadian get? I really liked Jamie Sale and David Pelletier at the 2002 games, really disappointing that we never heard from them again. If they had been Americans... they would still be famous.

Ruxpercnd.. they get what contestants on canadian game shows get.. Sweet fuck all.... if they are lucky they'll land a few corporate sponsors.. or Molsens will cut the team a cheque for $500,000.

Belbin couldn't find a decent partner in canada.. she found one in the US. Never blame her for her decision... she and her partner skated a beautiful routine....Kinda find it funny 80% of the skaters have Canadians designing thier programs.. (choreographed) and music done by canadians. Canadian coaches are sought after world wide.. but we can't place a canadian female on the podium. we have decent men's performances... Pairs and Ice dance we have some up and comers now that Kratz and Bourne are done.. same with Salle and Pelltier. but we have no singles ace in female on the horizon.... except maybe this Leung girl for 2010.. she looks good...

He played for the US because he's american. on his mothers side. he had an opportunity that was given too him. He never I remember playing against Brett when he was out here on the North Shore.

This from a website dedicated to Brett.

$1:
His nickname was the "Golden Brett", in reference to his father, the "Golden Jet". Hull is a dual citizen of Canada and the United States by birth (his mother is a U.S. citizen) and he has frequently represented the US in international player after being snubbed in his youth by Team Canada. He has three children with his ex-wife Allison: Jude, Jayde, and Crosby.

Brett Hull has been criticized by the media for competing for the USA internationally despite being Canadian by birth (however, he holds dual citizenship as noted above), his outspokenness about the NHL, as well as the 1999 Stanley Cup-winning goal.

Hull has a reputation for being outspoken and on numerous occasions has criticised the league, the players union, and other facets of the game. In 1986, Team USA invited Hull to play for them in the World Hockey Championships in Moscow, while Team Canada coach Dave King felt that Hull couldn't skate well enough. Out of loyalty, Hull chose to represent the United States in subsequent international hockey competitions.

But I have also heard from a couple of players close to Brett.. that looking back over the years.. yes he was snubbed by team Canada and so was his dad.. so F**K them I believe were the right words.....

Well, if our government would take better financial care of our athletes, we wouldn't have to deal with situations like this, now, would we? At least in the States, the athletes get serious financial bonuses.
