Well... maybe Americans are better drivers (this is a semi-troll)....

I have to admit that I never gave any thought to the difference between Canadian v.s. American drivers. I have driven a little in Canada and occaisionally see Canadians in the Seattle area. Actually, I always thought that I had a problem in Canada because the speed limit signs say 70 and I keep thinking that it means 70 miles per hour.

Anyway I was surprised to see this discussion where a Canadian talks about how great are the American drivers. Well... isn't this special?

Discussion at:
http://blogs.king5.com/citizenrain/2007 ... ivers.html

$1:
I had my annual trip to Table Mountain, and I have to admit I am embarrassed at how much nicer drivers are down here compared to BC. You heard me right.

On the five hours drive there, and the five hours back, I got cut off in traffic only once, probably because I was speeding. I didn't see people tailgating, or cutting in and out of traffic. The fast lane was clear except for drivers passing when it was posted as such.

I, one the other hand, cut a few people off and only once did I get honked at. No fists being shaken out a window, or a person hoisting a middle finger for me to see.

It was a different story once I returned. I had just gotten back on 176th St Cloverdale, not two minutes before I got cut off. I didn't make it back to the Trans-Canada beofre cutting someone else off.

Canadians get all smug about health care, gun control etc. We really need to learn to drive with civility and reason.

Here in Florida, nobody uses their f****** turn signal. It drives me nuts.

But you can drive 45 mph on commercial streets in the cities, which really means 50-55 mph, faster than on the anal Ontario highways.

However, you get into some of these retirement communities, and you'll be barreling down the road at 50 mph when suddenly you're right on top of some 4'10" blue-hair, barely peaking over the dashboard going 25, and suddenly you're slaloming across lanes to avoid a pile-up.

So, I'd say Canadians are better.

Well, we have Montreal, where everyone thinks they're auditioning for F1, so maybe its a tie.

Try driving in a Chinese city. You soon come to realise that all the jokes about their driving abilities are really observations. They make the goddamn Eyeties seem downright cautious.

Cant say much about Ottawa. Were too small of a city compared to others, but I do get those odd balls once in a while.

Americans are better. Coming back from the states, when we cross the border, within 20 minutes consistently we will get some retard do something stupid. "Well we're definitely back in Canada."

And I get stuck behind some jackass every day going to work.

I nearly got broadsided by a truck 2 days ago cause some moron drove thru a red light. What came good in this is that there was a RCMP car wanting to turn left also... he sure did go up his arse pretty quickly with those flashy lights

That's the truth. Taiwan was a hellish place to drive or ride a bike. The time I went to Beijing, people never signalled but just moved over, unless someone honked at them mid lane change.

I haven't driven much in the Eastern US, but have visited most of the Western states. The Mormons in Utah all seem to drive like assholes, cutting everyone off and swerving in and out of lanes, but otherwise, Americans drivers are about the same as us I'd say.

Except for that Canadians tend not to use the finger as much as Americans do.

Heh... Well... Alberta...

...

They do know that when the light goes red, they have to stop and let the people cross, right? I've been here for a few years and still can't tell if anyone in this province actually has a drivers licence...

I have to say the Asian driving stereotyping is true...

I've driven in Vancouver, and China City Canada West (Richmond), and my God, the woman, cannot ....

uh, from my observations the stereotype about Asians and driving is mostly true...
