fifeboy fifeboy: Off topic at least partly, but what ever happened to the Oil Shales? Oil shale in the US got put off because the cost of the extraction process exceeded the market value of the oil...for now. Oil sands used to have the same problem but then the cost of oil went up to where the cost of producing oil from the oil sands was less than the market value of the oil. Essentially the oil shales are a reserve and a hedge for the US & Canada against the day when the easier-to-process oil runs out. At that point the Arabs will have to buy their oil from us and the Middle East will return to its normal state of stagnation and poverty. Estimated U.S. oil shale reserves total 1,500,000,000,000 barrels of oil across the Western states. Canada has 2,730,200,00 barrels of oil estimated in its oil shale reserves and that should do Canada well as the 2100's come along. The Saudis are selling their oil now and we will have a domestic oil market again later this century when the Middle Eastern wells run dry.

BartSimpson BartSimpson: bootlegga bootlegga: Yeah, that free speech thing really sucks, doesn't it? It sucks? Then I guess it's a good thing you don't have it in Canada, isn't it? Oh we have it, but unlike in the US people are actually responsible for what they say. You want' to say that hitler was right to burn the Jews, feel free. Also feel free to hire a lawyer should anyone complain to the Human Rights commission. As it is one of your hero's (i easily see) Fred Phelps is barred from entering our country. It's called quarantining Batshit Crazy.

Don't we have the second largest reserve of oil ? If they're not already they'll be buying that god awful Alberta oil soon enough. Canada already is the largest suppler of oil to America. .

The irony of this protest is what's hilarious! Oh boy, we should take the leader of NGO and all the protesters. Strip'em nude, give their cars away to the poor then dump them in the forest because what there using came from sometype of oil and even worse if it came from what they're protesting against. The US always has someone to blame don't they Meh, I blame NAFTA and us not showing some balls against the US.

Aren't billboards normally put next to roads? Roads that carry vehicles burning that horrible oil?

On behalf of the United States I apologize for the moronic individuals who put up these billboards. I recognize that people my few various ways about Albertan Oil, but putting up a sign of "dirty Alberta" is stupid and insulting.
What do they mean by dirty Alberta, oh they don't like the oil industry there. That sign could mean a comment about the people, the institutions or anything else. If you don't like something specific say so, but don't put up something like that, Alberta is not Chernobyl.
If the Canadians are pissed off I don't blame them. I'm pissed off.
I would say Stay out of Dirty Mexico, I don't mind insulting Mexico at all they deserve it, Alberta doesn't.

From what I've read, oil shale is about where the oil sands were in the 1960s//70s. They can produce oil from it, but the process is too expensive and consumes more energy than you get out from the final product. In a decade or two, research should be able to find a scientific solution to it, if not, they just have to wait until the price of oil jumps high enough to make it profitable (which is what happened in the oil sands in the early 90s).
