I like how you just bypassed everything I just said. Did you realize we have 1/3 of the best univerisities? 51 out of the 100 best universities. 1/3 of the scientists in the world? 1/3 of the research? leading producer of technology? leading in our economy. Pretty good for a bunch of illiterate americans eh?

Because we have a high standard. We are competing against all the other countries in the world. We are worried about China. They produce a great deal of engineers and scientists. Their population gives them that ability. We have to deal with a nation of 1.2 billion. So yes the bar is going to be set high.

Your high standard is producing high school grads that cannot read at a grade 10 level. You want to produce graduates to enter a workforce no matter what.

That American arrogance is creating an Asian intellectual superiority that you can only blame on yourselves.

how many american students are american and how many come because the best niversities are here... with the largest economy that dominates like yours and with the number of foreign students I'd expect more like 75 out of the top 100 Us to be american...

They'll be lucky to enter second world status.

Japan has better technology,

Japan has shit for software, nothing on processors, nothing on airplanes capital goods, they may have an edge in automobiles and they are a decent producer of electronics, but they are by no means technologically superior.

Our post secondary education is the top in the world (Economist 2006 special edition) compared to Europes which are essentially daycares for adults.

The first and biggest problem with education in North America is the fact that we use school as a means of producing a workforce, and not as a means of engaging people to use their minds intelligently.

We should really change that, it's so much better to train a class of whiny intellectuals, then to have a group of people with useful skills.
