All nations need their myths, and this is one of them.

Bud/Miller/Labatt/Molson. Its all cooking beer anyways.[/quote]

As a loyal Riders fan you should know the real king of beers is Pilsner!

Toro Toro:
Gentlemen

Molson, Labatts, Coors, Bud

Its all just cooking beer, barely worthy of latrine washing.

But there are a many worthy Canadian and American micro-brews on both sides of the border - fine beers, not the cooking beers, which being caught with one is akin to being found with a cheap $10 hooker in a back street off East Hastings.

Well, you have to consider why those beers are very light. They were meant to be served cold after you were working out in a hot field or factory and you needed to drink something smooth without being filling.

You wouldn't want a thicker beer if you had to go do some work.

You can get some fine lagers that are great for the summer from micro-brews.

But I'm talking quality here, not mass-produced stuff where they expedite the brewing process, inject carbonation, speed up the fermenting process, etc., etc.

I love Canadian beer and although I had to look hard I know I've found some really great American beer. Two of my favorites are ESB (extra special bitter) from BridgePort Brewing Company out of Portland, Oregon and Shiner Bock beer from Shiner Brewery in Shiner, Texas (the pride beer of Texas to be sure... ).

If I had to go with a Canadian beer I would definately go with a Great Western or a Pilsner. Since I can't in Houston I stick to Moosehead, Molson and Labatts.

Bridgeport makes Blue Heron, which is an awesome beer.

How is this even a contest? Most major Canadian and American beers suck, period. America wins on the micro side, but that's only because we have ten times the population.

So.. what do you drink, warm British grog?

It is not unusual for my Canadian brothers to get persnickity about American beer. I just wanted to point out that the beer I drink, e.g. Black Butte Porter, can easily be held up against any Canadian beer.

Also to point out the difference in how alcohol content is computed differently in Canada and American beer.

I think fine beer could be made in Canada. However, I would argue that American beer drinkers are just more discriminating.

Anybody who drinks beer made in a 100,000 gallon tank.... stingy on the hops.... well... they get what they deserve.

you should.. American beer is really crap.. lived in Michigan for a year and was constantly going back to buy Canadian.. and then i moved to Europe.. that was the end of North America for me...

let the Yanks make nukes.. they're good at that.. beer by the Euro please :)

Quite frankly I don't care much for the mainstream Canadian beers, I think they are weak in flavor. But that doesn't mean there aren't some great local style Canadian beers. When you think of American beer, you can no longer just say Budweiser which is derived from a Bavarian receipe. American beer just isn't Bud anymore. And we can thank the Boston Brewing Company (Sam Adams) for that. They probably changed beer history in modern times more than any other company. They brought Old World beer philosophy to the American masses. The demographics and laws have helped European brewers maintain their tradition more than anything else. They don't have to produce beer for a domestic market of 100 million people. Why does Anheuser-Busch have many breweries with kettles as far as the eye can see? Becks, St Pauli Girl, Herrenheuser, and Hofbrau don't have to brew for such a market.
So let's keep these other factors in perspective. Germany, for example, has also maintained old traditions in their brewing laws; traditions that are hundreds of years old. The US has been around for 300 years, where some German breweries are older than our country. I'm a first born American of German descent and I like German beer, but I drink Sam Adams all the time. I'll like some others better, but for a beer that's easily available, Sam Adams is the one for me.

I dont think that american beer is crap, it just comes from a different philosophy that canadian beer. Americans want to be able to drink beer all freaking night, and if the want to get drunk they'll add some shots of wiskey to the menu. But, Canadians want to get drunk on a 12 pack of beer, who wants to throw out their back by having to carry more than 12 cans, eh?

What do American beer and making love in a canoe have in common? They're both fucking close to water.

ROTFL

Ok, I guess I might have offended your ability to drink beer. Its not all that uncommon for a true canadian to show up at a party with a 24 of beer. But, then its clear what your intentions are, eh?

However, have you seen the alcohol content stats for the average american draft? A guy could die of the beer shits and still not feel drunk.

In my day, I remember going to a long weekend campout with 24 cans for each night and 12 for each day. With steady perseverance its amazing how much you can pack back without having to be one of those guys that can handle his booze. .....By sunday afternoon, I looked at my beer in my hand and said "I hate you, I don't want to speak to you for at least another week" LOL These days, my fridge has beer in it that I bought last labor day.
