Go for forestry conservation in that case. But it's not something that's going to be in high demand in Canada - we've already got plenty.

MacAilbert MacAilbert:
Having a hard time in social situations and being uncomfortable when in charge. I got discharged over it.

That would not disqualify you from emmigrating. Having an offer of employment would help your situation. Some of the others on the forum who have successfully gone through the process can give you better advice than I.

Being "socially awkward" or not, is not a qualification for immigration. Neither are discharges.
Work experience, education, age, relatives, English skills etc etc are. It is also a good thing if you are not sick, don't have AIDS or something (diabetes or whatever is no big deal), no psychiatric past (as in being hospitalized) no criminal record (or have it waived).

More info: www.cic.gc.ca

A job lined up is ALWAYS a better way to immigrate, but not the easiest to do. Also, when you start this, it is a LONG road you have to travel, and your patience will be tried. It took me 27 months from day of application till the day I landed. I am from The Netherlands tho, not from the US.

I'd rather get lost in Canada's Territories lol. Less paper trail and it's easier slipping across from Alaska lol.

How is the education system compared to America? I'm asking not only for my children, but I, myself, am looking into transferring to a Canadian University. I hear that the educational system in Canada is far superior to America, and also that it's free, even college. Is this true?

No no and no. You've been reading a lot of myths. Especially the "free" part. BTW what makes you think you can just move to Canada?

Canadian colleges and universities definitely cost alot less than in the US, and tution is subsidized, but it is not free. International Students pay a higher tuition than Canadian students.

You can find more information here:

http://www.aucc.ca/canadian-universitie ... niversity/

The Canadian education system is considered equivalent to the US, so in either country, a person educated in Canada would be considered to have the same academic creditials as someone educated in the US and degerees/diplomas are transferrable and accepted at face value.

As someone who has been to university in both countries, my persosal experience is that US university exams rely more on standardized testing: lots of True/False or Multiple Choice questions often done with a scan-tron form and a #2 pencil. Some short-answer questions and fill-in-the-blanks. My Canadian university experience invovled a lot more long-answer essay questions on exams and most courses had at least one term paper, sometimes more.

What makes these Americans just think they can pick up and move to Canada? Ignorance at its finest. Honestly even the Americans that meet the criteria to immigrate to Canada will find that they're simply not welcome here. Many Canadians harbour negative feelings about Americans. I'm not saying that out of my own personal sentiment but of the many people I know.

Don't think you really read much of the initial post. The person said he was considering it and wanted to know more, therefore asking the question. You on the other hand just jump and accused them of ignorance.

I wasn't speaking about them but about Americans in general thinking they can easily move to Canada as if it were some other state. You know? It's just a little silly.

No. Some of them honestly do though. I think it comes from the lack of knowledge about Canada. I believe Canada is looked upon as some territory of the U.S like Guam that will be extra easy to get into.
