Yank-in-NY Yank-in-NY:
Becoming American would be a fate worse than death for most Canadians

Ya, I know it was said on another forum. But I'm curious what posters have to say about the comment on this site.

To me, such a comment can only come from a bigot, nothing more, nothing less.

Comments?

Why would that statement necessarily be a bigoted one?

What if the question were reversed? Would you consider becoming a Canadian a fate worse than death? Based on the right wing slant of many Americans, I'd guess that that would be their answer.

I would not consider it worse than death, but I would see it as the worst day in my entire life if Canada were swallowed by the USA. I have zero interest in becoming an American.

I'm Canadian and will be until the day I die, period. That's patriotism, not racism...

Great spin but that's not what he said. If he had a choice between death and becoming an American, he would choose death.

I'm quite sure I would pick to live anywhere in the Western World rather than die.

Maybe you shouldn't be taking that comment quite so literally.

I could live on the west coast - Washington or even better, Oregon. I could also see myself livig in Hawaii. Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota - actually, I could live anywhere that wasn't too hot/humid.

If I ever moved somewhere permanently though, I'd probably take on citizenship.

Oh but lily...Montana, Whyoming, and South Dakota are red states!

Personally I would love to live in the USA.

My only criteria is I would PREFER (not a must) a red state.

Actually, I never do, but this comment came from someone I know meant it the way I took it.

Ah well, I regretted posting it here anyway, too late.

Sorry for the bother!

Have a nice day all.

I am an American in a Canadian body.

I would move to the USA in a heartbeat if job/finances prevailed.

Then my first act as a citizen would be getting a Republican membership..

I'd love to see New York, Savannah, teh Everglades, and Anchorage. One day.

I've lived down there a couple of times and it's great, though I did miss Canada after a while.

If you enjoy saunas, you should move to Houston. Nice, hot, and humid. Plus, gas is cheaper because all of the oil refineries are right next door!
