Scape Scape:

\interesting thanks. Close to retirement now, but if that happened here in Canada, I'd be dealing with it.

Strutz Strutz:

Big deal.(sarcasm) It is only about 6% of the rice imports. Maybe if you must have a certain brand of Indian rice it might seem like a problem, but we get lots of rice from other parts of the world. I prefer the Asian varieties so the impact on our home is 0.

/\ I know! Seems weird to have to put out this kind of warning as it's not like there's no rice out there.

India is the 1st and biggest domino. Now they they closed up the market everyone else will be forced to do so. Ensuring rice will be in a price spiral. 6% is meaningless when it is capacity that is the issue.

DrCaleb DrCaleb:

What a weird decision by the company considering the popularity of that brand. We've always bought the Kleenex Ultra soft 3-ply because they were of better quality to handle allergy-related blows. We happened to go this morning to London Drugs to pick up a few things and tissues were on the list. Kleenex products pretty much all gone except for single boxes of 120 tissues for $4.99. Well shit, for $6.49 (on sale mind you) we got a 6pk of Scotties 3-ply which come 81 tissues/box (what a weird quantity [huh] ) I'm sure they will work just fine.

I think that if companies decide to pull their product out of Canada, they should lose their copyrights here.

'This is egregious': Sisters shocked when Toronto landlord raises rent to $9,500 a month

$1:
The landlord had told them he wanted to raise the rent to $3,500 and when they complained he decided to raise it to $9,500.

Buildings built after Nov. 15, 2018 are exempt from rent controls. Meaning, landlords can raise the rent by any amount they want. The Ford government scrapped rent control for these units to incentivize developers and increase the province’s housing supply.

I wouldn't be surprised if the real incentive involves some quid pro quo.

I know we've bantered about shrinkflation in here and I found an example today. I needed to get a bottle of the body wash I like and it was on sale so I got one. I noticed the label and bottle shape has changed a bit so I compared. Old one was 12oz/354ml. New one is 11oz/325ml. Not an earth-shattering difference but still...
