PostManPat PostManPat:
Word around my school from teachers and students is that BC teachers will be going on Strike on either this upcoming Friday ( Oct 7 ) or the following Tuesday.

thats whats going around here to. it seems to me that most highschool teachers don't want to strike. its only the elementary and some highschool teachers. If they don't have the legal grounds to strik my teachers said they arn't leaving regardless of what they are told.

Its On!!!!!

Teachers are officially off the job ( October 7 ) and aren't coming back to work until they get what they want. It will really hurt the Grade 12's due to the fact that the provincal exams can't be moved to a later date. So i'm hoping it will last for a long time and then i don't

I don't think the strike will last any longer than a week. But I'm in grade 12 and this really does kinda screw things up for me.

Anyway, not much the students can do about the strike. Hopefully the strike won't go on for too long.

At least now we get tomorrow off. I got a stay of execution... because I didn't finish my English project.

Too bad they have children as hostages or pawns in their efforts to increase wages 15% over 3 years.

If a teacher does not have a contract they can claim UI during summer holidays. There are no harvests to reap so that 3 month vacation should be abandoned. School all year long.
Nothing is good enough for our students. They should get as much education as possible.

Looks like public schools could be out for the rest of the week. Saw the news earlier today and the teachers won't be fined until Thursday. I can't see the teachers going back to work any time soon....

Knowing our gov't, this strike will be over by Halloween. They'll impose another unfair settlement and restart the whole process over again.

Campbell will probably try and legislate the teachers back to work. He and the rest of the Socreds really seem to have a thing against the education system. First we'll close a pile of schools and make elementary children spend as much as two hours on a school bus getting to and from school. Then they won't bargain in good faith with the teachers and the teachers are playing the strike card, not that I think they should be able to, but you can't blame them for making a stand of some kind.

It's more the Liberals have a problem with unions. I'm sure, if they could, they'd bring back the strike breakers from the 1920's.

Hmmm.... I think I'd like it if they did make that move. Maybe that would be the catalyst that Joe Canadian needs to finally stand up and start fighting the government both Provincialy and Nationally on all the issues that we just bitch and moan about now. A little revolution now and then is a good thing.

How true, but the whole reason they're on strike is because the gov't won't negotiate in good faith.

The message they're sending to kids is to stand up for what you believe in (at least in my opinion).

They know their actions are illegal but they don't care. What kind of message are they sending to our kids?

The thing that is possitive about that is to teach our children not to follow blindly. They have the right in this country to disagree with the government and the law and if need be break that law if it's a law that takes your rights away. It was the Socreds that made teaching an essential service with no job action allowed, not the people of BC. That should have been out to a vote for you, me and the rest of the people of BC to decide, not people who want absolute power if they can get it.
