$1:
A Kootenay woman suing her adult children for support has won the right to have her case heard in B.C. Supreme Court, after three of her children applied to have the matter dismissed.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A rarely used section of B.C.'s Family Relations Act says adult children are responsible for legally supporting parents who are "dependent on a child because of age, illness, infirmity or economic circumstances."

Ridiculous...she abandons him as a 15 year old and expects him to take care of her. Someone needs to fall and never get back up.

I would refuse to pay, if they continued to press the issue I would leave the province.

Another reason to leave this hell hole. This is the way people think here.

That the supreme court agrees with her is despicable.

Slow down a sec folks. She won the right to take the issue to court. There's nothing that says she'll actually win her case.

Anderson first went to court in 2000, seeking $750 a month from her five adult children, but they objected, citing years of alienation. But Anderson won a court order granting her $50 a month total, split amongst five children.

The matter appeared to end there, until it was resurrected again in 2008, by her son, Ken Anderson, a logging truck driver with two teenagers of his own.

This whole thing is bullshit, this Ken Anderson is bitching about the 5 kids having to ante up $50 a month between them when it could be $750 per month. As far as I'm concerned he should have to pay the whole $750 a month himself for being a jackass. No matter what the outcome, this case is going to cost the Canadian taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars to see it to an end.

A friend of my wife won the right to charge the banks with taking too large of interest rates on mortgages. This was back when interest rates peaked at 22%. The backs simply stalled until he lost his down payment and repossessed. What you win the right to do and a settlement are miles apart.

No, the fact they had to pay this woman is ridiculous. It is the principle, not the amount.

Nope. She opted out of being a mother when it was inconveniant. As far as I;'m concerned, she should not be able to opt in after shitting the bed financially.

Thats the dispicability of it all, the fact that this law actually sways in her favour. However whats forcing this woman to have to sue her kids? This is another story produced by a bigger issue.

Necro posting is often frowned upon in polite forum social circles. Just throwing that out there.
