The forum index page can sometimes take awhile to load at peak times, I have found that the bulk of the time it takes to load is from the "Recent Topics" list. When you are logged in the recent topics list not only shows the most recent topics, but tracks to what post you have read the topic too. This feature takes a long time to load, remocing it from the forum index makes the page load WAY faster.
But for some, including me, I can't live without the list. But for those who can live without and would prefer a faster loading page, I have added an option in your forum profile settings to disable the "recent topics".
Go to your forum profile:

Look for "Show Recent Topics on forum index" and select "no".

After some more digging, I found a way to disable the "message tracking" in the recent topics also has a positive effect on the loading time. But with this option you still get the list.
"MESSAGE TRACKING WILL TRACK TO SEE IF A USER HAS READ THE TOPIC DURING THEIR SESSION"
So I also added an option in your forum profile to disable message tracking, which will keep the recent topics list while making the page load much faster.
