RI thinks that if Harper's budget favours Quebec, Quebecois will vote for Liberals rather than Bloc, and therefore we must have a Harper budget which favours Quebec. Is that correct? No, I'm arguing that Charest has tied his political fate to the Harper budget. As such, it's imperative that this bu... |

The bill doesn't actually affect sitting Senators, and it's a fairly big deal - it amends the constitution and everything. What's more, Stephen Harper said that it would be part of the larger package that would include an elected Senate - however, the Bill he has put forward in the House calls for '... |

I just saw Joy McPhail representing the NDP on Mike Duffy live, and she seemed to be saying that a seperatist government in Quebec would be preferable.
If I'm Jack Layton, I'm on the phone - or even in the Foyer of the House - trying to make sure everyone knows that's not where the NDP stands... |

Please elaborate on this because I thought the Liberals had a string of majorities. Speaking out against something or pointing out inaction isn't really a roadblock. Read the letter - he vowed to do everything to stop Kyoto. He asked people to write op eds. He asked for their money for the 'battle ... |

When the Liberals tried to do something, Harper threw up roadblocks.
When the Liberals were trying to get Canadians to cut greenhouse gasses, Harper asked oil companies to cut him a cheque. |

Always nice to wake up to an article that a seperatist leader has caused his party to plunge in the polls: http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/news/story.html?id=3f2871d4-245f-4275-adf4-d6271032f99a Jean Charest is in the lead for the first time in forever. Even as a Liberal, I'm forced to hope that ... |

If an election comes, Liberals will be ready. However, the NDP seem willing to abandon their commitment to hold the Conservatives to their Kyoto targets in return for amendments to the clean air act if it will mean they don't have to go to the polls. The Conservatives seem more than happy to buy the... |

Jeff Jedras (A BC'er in TO) makes another phenomenal point about the ads:
The Conservatives have sent their message via the commercial - but now, the media is going to come to the Liberals for their response. This gives Liberals a chance to put out our own message. |

The recent spate of attack ads launched by the Conservatives may be a blessing in disguise for Liberal Leader Stéphane Dion as he tries to reign in his party and his caucus. The attack on Dion will likely cause Liberals to rally around Dion's banner to defend him. Ironically, by making Dion's abilit... |

I'd describe myself as a slightly left of centre Liberal, living in Canada. I'm doggedly federalist, favouring a strong central government with a role in ensuring national standards and a strong international presence. While I may often disagree with the policies of the current American administrati... |

We had a young offender who stole two hundred cars, yes 200 and one day the police were chasing him in yet another stolen car and he killed a woman. Car thief falls under the motor vehicle act and so does drinking and driving. I'd like to see that changed, I want those crimes under the criminal cod... |

Have you contacted any other young Liberals locally, and are you involved at all with your riding association? I came from a family that wasn't politically involved, and one of my biggest regrets now is that I never got involved at the riding level when I was younger. I have some friends who have be... |

Reliable, the discussion is very interesting indeed! But it is getting detaile In my view, you words but it doesn't make our constitution any less valid or binding on any province. are valid, but they are more meaningful only as follows: a. The constitution is definitely binding on Quebec, if you r... |

I do agree with you and Parti Quebecois that separation requires a referendum, but that is a tautology. How else would we decide that Quebecois wanted to separate? Or for that matter, Albertans? My point is slightly different. If there was a proper constitution, then there is no question of a refer... |
