Forum: General Jibber Jabber   Topic: Racist bake sale at UC Berkley?

What if you were a black youth in Toronto with the all-white police force? Would you feel like being a police officer is within your grasp? Depends on who you are individually. People like the teen versions of Thomas Sowell and Clarance Thomas would think "yes." I just saw this response. ...

While I respect economists to weigh in on this matter, I read the following: http://www.cepr.net/documents/publications/min-wage-2013-02.pdf It concludes that minimum wage increases have almost zero impact on small businesses and instead create a greater economic boon for the workforce. I know many ...

No. You're trying to have it both ways again by bringing legal terminology into the court of public opinion. Drop your last sentence. I never introduced legal terminology into the court of public opinion. I was assessing Thomson's claim from a criminal court perspective. Which is what she's claimin...

you and the rest of the leftists. Yeah, we libertarians are leftists. If you're going to reduce it to the court of public opinion, then what you've said is, "Sure, I believe Rob Ford would do something like that. Wait, what, somebody accused him of it? Guilty on accusation alone!" ...

This isn't a criminal court. The standard of beyond a reasonable doubt isn't necessary. To dismiss her complaint is to presume she's a liar. And if you want to play junior-lawyer, courts presume people to be truthful, whether there is reasonable doubt not. You can't have it both ways. Who is playin...

Unfortunately, this is simply a "he said/she said". Legally speaking, there is a lot of reasonable doubt that Ford grabbed himself some ass. She has no corroborating witnesses, no physical evidence and a good defence lawyer would make a lot of hay about how she handled herself afterwards. ...

Forum: Current Events   Topic: Firing almost a certainty' if police officer lies, says Edmonton police chief

Amazingly, lying in an information to obtain a search warrant doesn't invalidate the search warrant. The lie is simply excised from the information (and the truth inserted) and the reviewing Judge ascertains whether the warrant could have been issued. If he finds it could have, the warrant stands. W...

Congrats to the City of Hamilton. Now watch CUPE make us all waste millions of dollars in court. Obviously the Union will be involved, its what they do. If they had been arrested for a criminal offence (which asphalt dumping likely will be in some form), they'd be entitled to a defence lawyer and t...

It's a rocky road Benn. One the police leaders have been on for a while. Diversity isn't a problem for the guys on the front lines, but it scares the shit out of the bosses. A simple solution is to enforce parliament's laws equitably (as per the Charter)but it 'aint gonna happen. Race/ethnicity is ...

Another unforeseen consequence of driving up police costs are minimum mandatory sentences. It used to be that a plea agreement could be made for those cases that ate up the majority of actual court time, drunk-driving and marijuana grow-operations, but now there's no sense in pleading out. (Make tho...

The message is the same, you just don't like how it's being said in the second example. It's rude and condescending. I agree, believe what you want, but there's no need to make fun of what others believe. Sure there is. There is a need to mock the underpinnings that cause doctors in Ireland watch a...

Gunnair Gunnair:
Interesting levels of arrogance here, and telling. Yet another Eureka moment for the forums.

You could prove them wrong if you wanted. I notice that you continue not to. It's also "telling" that you'd like me to believe I'm wrong, yet won't provide reasons why.

You may continue in all of your assumptions of course. So what do you believe, and why? Sorry, I don't lay my faith and beliefs out for the locals whose only purpose is to try and run them down. I'm sure there are those open to conversion for your beliefs, but I'm not really none of them, thanks. I...
