andyt andyt: Sure. But I thought modern Europeans were descended from Indo Aryans (Hence Hitler's schtick). I didn't think they stopped off in Egypt first.
All humans' ancestors are from Africa. Humans came from that continent. |

All Europeans - including, of course, me - are direct descendants of Charlemagne, who was King of the Franks from 768 and Emperor of the Romans (Imperator Romanorum) from 800 to his death in 814. In other words, Charlemagne is my great-great-great-great-great-great (and however many more greats) gra... |

Big difference between believing in a myth propagated by religious institutions, and putting to rest those who legitimately deserve it. The people burning witches also thought they legitimately deserved it. You're stuck in your time as much as they were in theirs. What if people deserving to be kil... |

Here is a list of British words not frequently used in the United States and maybe Canada (many of which I thought the Americans use all the time). To abseil (to descend on a rope). The Americans, apparently, say "to rappel." Action Man: Britain's equivalent of America's G.I. Joe. Agony Au... |

British MPs could vote on whether to bring back the death penalty. Campaigners plan to use an online petition scheme launched by the Government to press their case. And any petition which receives more than 100,000 names MUST be considered for debate in Westminster. They want capital punishment - ba... |

I love watching those travel programmes. I often watch my brother's Michael Palin DVDs. I also love watching those episodes of Top Gear where the lads go abroad and are given certain challenges. There was one in which they had to ride across Botswana but, I think, were not allowed to use off-road ve... |

#9 'Touch base' is lost on the sodding gits in the UK because they don't play baseball. You have to admit, it's obnoxious when it's overused by marketers and other suits. "It's all good." Yep... I hate it. Amen. When I watch an American movie on DVD sometimes I have to use the English sub... |

At least we pronounce the letters "T" and "R" in our words as it should be. No, you don't. Americans and Canadians pronounce the letter T as D. You don't say "dirty." You say "dirdy." You don't say "The Cat in the Hat." You say "The Cad in the ... |

There is a six-part British documentary series called "World War I in Colour". It was originally screened in 2003 on Channel 5 (it's one of the few good things that Channel 5 has shown) and is narrated by the actor Kenneth Branagh. Its stars are the British WWI veterans Arthur Barraclough,... |

As to the rest of it, it appears to me to simply be an imperialistic bitch session rather unbecoming of the Brits. Really, they sound like the French. If you look at that list you'll see that one was written by a Dutchman, one was written by a New Zealander, one was written by a Canadian and TWO we... |

I wouldn't say it sucks. Just having a team and taking part in world cup event says lots. And intresting FYI that USA has a cricket team also and has one for a very loooong time. Even became a member of the ICC ( International Cricket Council )in the 60's. The world's first cricket international ma... |

Well I think its a good thing, not limiting Canada to just the "American world sports" of Hockey, "football", baseball etc etc. Oh sure. Truth be told, Canada & the US have the most diversity of sports played then any other nation on earth. That most certainly isn't true. Th... |

FOX might bne selling it here as another liberal attack on conservatives, but that's not the way they see it in England. NOTW is not known, like FOX, for its right-wing politics. It's known for celebrity scandal and salacious stories. In my view, British newspapers are much more interesting to read... |

The questioning of the Murdochs and of Brooks by Parliament was shown live on BBC News 24 and Sky News. And, of course, so was the custard pieing of Rupert Murdoch by a comedian named Johnnie Marbles. And Rupert looked very humbled in deed.
I think it was a great day for British democracy. |
