but I don't doubt they would have went through with it had they not been caught. Neither do I. Life sentence to the leader, guess what, double credit for time served, he's eligable for parole in 12 years. The other guy that got 12 years, double credit for time served, he's eligable in 6.5 years. Re... |

I'm really not understanding our justice system here. One of these guys got life in prison. Okay. We could consider that 'fair' but let's face it they never actually killed anyone. Meanwhile people are getting crap like 12 year...15 years...for outright murder. Don't mistake this for sympathy for th... |

I see. So you're not simply argumentative, but also a liar. About what? If Shephard wants to use man in the gender neutral form, well let him. You know, everyone reading Shepards post knows, that he did not make the post because he wants to use the term as a gender neutral term. You avoid the simpl... |

I've always considered making snide remarks about something other people are arguing about pretty low class forum behavior. Either join the argument, or if you're above all that, just keep quiet. I've always considered ignoring what someone says, purposely mischaracterizing what they say, then argu... |

Who cares what the original meaning is? (sigh) Could you please try, just for a moment, to act like an adult? The original meaning is what Shepard was talking about. You responded to that statement, a little foolishly, by quoting the English definition when it was clear that Shepards speaking about... |

Are you color blind? Did you see the part I highlighted? Do you really go around using the term man in a gender neutral way? Words change their meaning as they evolved, sometimes to total opposite. Conscious comes from Latin "with knowing" and originally meant something known by many. The... |

Also: Is there a reason you quote dictionary.com but omit the special notes? Usage Note: Traditionally, many writers have used man and words derived from it to designate any or all of the human race regardless of sex. In fact, this is the oldest use of the word. In Old English the principal sense of... |

It is relatively easy to argue against "convenience, incompleteness…and literary tradition" as the basis of continued preference for the masculine to the exclusion of the feminine in present day formal written English. It was the etymological defense that caused me some concern: "…ma... |

womyn is a stupid term, as man comes from the Sanskrit word mannas. This means human being, which is gender neutral. You're saying this topic is about a man who was in a state of menopausal exhausation? That's carrying pc way too far. No I think it's obvious that he's saying "womyn" is a ... |

And History doesn't mean "his" "story", it comes from a Greek term meaning "the story/account thus far". |

I suspect the hormone treatment more than the menopause. If there's anything to it, i.e. if it isn't just her excuse, that stuff can **** you up. |

That's not the argument at all. Why was it always acceptable in the past but now it's not? I think it is. Maybe I'm misunderstanding. I understand your point that it was never a big stink made about it in the past, but the truth is when Chretien did it he did it as a crass political maneuver just l... |
