Security has been tightened on all U.S.-bound flights after a man claiming to be an agent of al-Qaeda was charged Saturday with trying to blow up a Northwest Airlines flight on Christmas Day as it was preparing to land in Detroit.
What the hell would it matter if the plane blew up in the first hour, the middle or the last hour of the flight? Kids won't be able to hold it for an hour.
Abdulmutallab is on a anti-terrorism watchlist maintained by the U.S. National Counterterrorism Center, which includes about 550,000 names, an official said.
People on that list are not necessarily on the country's no-fly list, and New York congressman Peter King said Abdulmutallab was not on the no-fly list. Dutch anti-terrorism authorities said he was travelling on a U.S. visa valid through the first half of 2010.
So here is what I don't understand... HOW in the world can you get a US visa when you are on a anti-terrorism watchlist maintained by the U.S. National Counterterrorism Center?
Did the terrorist get out of his seat? Because the way I heard the story the only passenger who got out of his seat was a quick thinking guy who jumped up to put the fire out.
So if that's the case, what are they saying with this stay-in-your-seats rule? Next time sit there and burn?

False documents are easy to obtain... not surpising he would be well covered.

that's why this whole thing since 9/11 has been termed 'security theatre'. It does nothing to make anyone safer. It only makes people THINK they are safer.
Isn't panicking and running around making our lives harder because we are afraid something MIGHT happen giving the terrorists the very thing they want.
Sometimes I dare to ask if there is such a thing as someone so stupid that reverse psychology always works on them. Then I see our governments pulling this kind of crap out the rear and you know someone faked their PHD in law.

Agreed. New restrictions and a ton of media attention on some dumbass drone is probably exactly what they were looking for.

Actually, the news this morning said he went through Dutch security in Amsterdam.

Actually, the news this morning said he went through Dutch security in Amsterdam. I wonder how. You stay in a secured area. There are no security thingies there, just guards... They just watch. You don't have to take off your shoes again, you don't have to put your luggage through a rontgen thing again...

Yeah, I`m not sure how. It just said he went through security in Amsterdam. The fact that the liquids were stored in condems and non metal syringes means it`s irrelevent anyway. The metal detector wouldn`t have picked up anything.
The news is now saying that he was on a generic 'person of interest' list rather than a no fly list. Also, his American multiple entry visa was obtained in 2008(and was to expire in Feb. '10), before he was showing overt signs of radicalization. His family sounded alarms about him, weeks before this, to who they thought were appropriate authorities. It turns out that he had the explosives sewn into his underwear, so it seems the sniffer dogs need to start doing crotch checks for 'suspicious' packages now.
all passengers must now sit for the las hour of the flight..
Can't do any better than that ?
How fucktarded!
