A group of Saskatchewan and Alberta First Nations will lease their land to a company to form the largest corporate farm in the country, a Saskatchewan chief says.
Though it's sad to see the demise of the Family Farm, it's a couple decades past since it really occurred. Some still exist, but big Corporate Farms are the future unless someone intervenes.
That said, this particular Venture seems like a great idea. It certainly is a lot better than going the Casino route popular in the US.
The sizeable chunk of land in that article is apparently a very small part of the bigger picture talked about in article.
At least 15 First Nations will be involved, farming over one million acres of land. The company will employ more than 250 full-time and part-time employees
Over one million acres will provide 250 full and part time jobs? Funny, divided among 'family' farms, that same amount of land would likely support around 500 - 600 families.
Just some quick math... ...maybe the corporation pays better.
That's a sizeable chunk, roughly the size of 10 to 15 'family farms'.
