It's awful in this area. Entire communities are being wiped out.

20,000 people traveling down one highway with few gas stations along the way. Going to be a rough evac. I wish them luck and hope that its purely precautionary.

Yep, I bet this is even worse than the Fort Mac evac in 2016, which also evacuated tens of thousands of people down a single highway. The problem here of course, is that major cities like Edmonton are 14 hours away, instead of five.

If I were the owner of a gas station along that highway, I would have called yesterday for a tanker refill. Just like Fort Mac. 8O

Listening to the noon call in show on the radio. It's Alberta wide, and in the NWT today too as all the radio hosts from Yellowknife are in Edmonton.

Lots of people who call in say 'Hi Judy, remember me?' or 'Just called in Peter to let you know we are in Whitecourt..'.

Yellowknife is still a small town, like the one I grew up in. :(

Is the problem that facebook banned news or that they're getting their news from facebook?

Yes. They got their news from Meta properties, and they don't know where else they can get news.

    Like . . .here.
