Around 300 workers at Wapasu Creek Lodge, north of Fort McMurray, Alta., are facing termination after voting to reject salary and benefit cuts.

    There must be more to this story. They don't mention how much they are getting paid now or how much of a cut they were told to accept. Regardless, terminating them for not accepting the conditions seems bs. How are they going to fill all those jobs?

    Probably as UFCWU has a rep as a "pussy union" that's caved to 2 tier contracts and cuts since the 1990s.
    The wife was a member, 16 years of 40 hr weeks in the grocery chain, twice got all benefits cut off until she put in X hours again after surgeries for work related injuries, never got listed as full time and the very first day of retirement all her benefits were cut.
    The majority of members are female, not militant at all, most are in the union 'because they have to be'... what more incentive to get stepped all over by management.

    Radio said they were asked for a 10% rollback. In Fort Mac, that means homelessness.

    I doubt they can terminate a contract with a year left on it because they won't take a wage rollback. And if they can, this is not the way to attract and retain staff.
