He redeemed his political image by succeeding municipally after his failed provincial runs. Then he returned Toronto to a sense of normalcy after the insanity of the Rob Ford years. He was seen as doing a decent-to-good job as mayor by most observers.

And then he goes and does this, torpedoing everything he's accomplished for the last few years.

How many powerful men have destroyed their careers by thinking with the wrong head?

During his over eight years in office, some praised Tory as a boring mayor, a return to normalcy after the explosive Rob Ford years. But his critics have also accused him of presiding over a historic decline in Toronto, pointing to decaying services and failures for the most vulnerable.

Boring is the new code of incompetent. He kept tax rates stable for home owners, that was his hallmark. Everything else he was a dismal failure.
