The court hearing for Canadian citizen Michael Spavor, detained by China since late 2018 on suspicion of espionage, ended on Friday after around two hours.
We need to stand up to them. Either we PNG some of their diplomats or threaten to cut off trade if they are convicted.
Some might call it an over-reaction, but we did it with South Africa and apartheid, we did with China after the Tiananmen Square massacre, and we've done it at other times in the past for other brutal countries.
We need to stand up to thugs and given that they send us $45 billion/year in goods, and we only send them $21 billion, it should hurt them just as much as it does us.
I am hard pressed to think of who would be left at this point that would endorse the position of China. What allies do they have? If this is not the poster child for divesting from their economy then what is?
US announces sanctions for Chinese officials over human rights abuses

The sanctions are part of a coordinated effort with the European Union, the United Kingdom and Canada, the Treasury Department said.
The sanctions stem from the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act, which allows the president to deny entry into the U.S., revoke already-issued visas, block property under U.S. jurisdiction and prohibit American businesses from entering into business with foreign entities.

Sanctions are great and all, but I was hoping for an armed conflict. The only way China will get the message is if we give them a really nasty bloody nose, and then some.
Don't negotiate with Terrorists.
