Doctors from around Alberta say ballooning wait times for publicly funded MRI and CT scans are putting patients at risk. They're calling on the province and Alberta Health Services to address the backlog.
I have heard both sides, and from my personal experience, I have walked into a Mayfair clinic in Calgary and had a scan the same hour. So..not sure, I have never really waited for anything. Granted, I don't have any health issues but when I get something done it has always been very quickly. Maybe it is just me.
I've had emergency CTs and MRIs the same hour too, but that was years ago. Over the last 5 years I have had an annual diagnostic CT scan, and that has gone from weeks to months in the future to book.
Or, I can pay $800 to have it done today in a private clinic.
Me too. Went to the Dr with back problem late in June, had a CT scan within 10 days, later an MRI and back to the Dr to hear the results and the specialist's report just after Labour Day. Didn't seem too long to shit bricks about. Friends with cancer & serious problems got scans done way quicker.
The obvious way to get around the wait times is to go to emerg or get admitted...of course that costs the system a lot more than scheduling enough spaces for routine scans.

Drink lots of water with lemon juice in it - the citric acid helps the prevention of kidney stones.
yeah I learnt my lesson, not drinking enough water, it was a few years ago but holy shit, did that hurt. I ended up pissing it out (2.5mm) but had to also have lithotripsy because I had another one, but it never dropped so they went up the plumbing to get it.

That wasn't fun either.
The worst thing about kidney stones is that once you get one, you are more likely to get them going forward.
2.5 mm - rookie!
I've had them now twice, although the first time was the worst because I had three of the bastards (14 mm, 8mm, 5mm) and like you, required surgery. The time spent waiting for it was brutal, with several bouts of renal colic, pissing blood, you name it. In a week, I lost more than 20 pounds because I couldn't keep anything down, not even water.
The second time, my stone was a mere 5 mm and therefore small enough to piss out.
The nurse at my surgery told me that the pain involved with kidney stones are the closest a man can get to child birth (she spoke from experience, having both).

That wasn't fun either. Same thing happened to me about 20 years ago, except it was gout. Had been out cutting firewood from winter felled trees. Forgot the water flask. Good god no, never again. It's pills now, and good hydration.

Avoid caffeine altogether too if you have a stone. Caffeine makes a stone ACHE like nothing's ever ached before. Ouch!

Sour cherry juice helps too.

I'll trade you one unspecified case of lymphoma coupled with shingles for your kidney stone.
