Why are they dickshitting about his alleged terrorist ties? He entered the country illegally using fake documents. That should immediately disqualify him and his family from spending any more time in Canada than the next flight back to where they came from.
Doesn't matter.
As disgusting as it is, once you get your foot in the door you're entitled to all the protections of the Charter. So, it doesn't really matter whether you don't belong here, came in illegally, or committed numerous crimes including terrorism while here. You're golden and upon request will be given millions of Canadians tax payer dollars all because we didn't live up to our charter obligations and let you stay illegally, commit acts of terrorism or other sundry criminal activities.
Gimme my money Mr. Trudeau.
The charter shouldn't apply to non-Canadians.
FTFY.

I've seen no shortage of US citizens turned back at the border for coming and trying to live and work here. Funny how US citizens have to jump through hoops if they want a better life in Canada. But if you're in the US illegally, well, WELCOME TO CANADA.

Sorry you're both wrong. That would mean that things like the freedom of speech and the right to due process, and not be arbitrarily detained wouldn't apply just because you weren't born here. We aren't Saudi Arabia, or China, or some other backwards shit hole. Charter applies to everyone, or no one. You don't lose civil rights in free countries. You lose them in authoritarian shit holes.

Actually the charter exists to protect (Both native born and the vast multitude who lawfully immigrated here). It wasn't intended to protect people who fraudulently entered the country. His right to protection was voided when he illegally entered the country.
Could you imagine that all someone had to do was literally get one foot on dry land to get full protection under the charter? Our nation would be bankrupted by the tens of thousands that would sail across the Atlantic. It's an idiotic precedent the courts are setting.
The man entered Canada under false pretenses. He lied on his immigration application. He broke the law. He should be ineligible to remain in Canada and must be deported. Full stop. The is no room for debate. Either we deport the man and show immigration enforcement has teeth or we let him stay and say to the world that we are a weak nation and will not deport criminals.
The feds should be ashamed.

It says everyone for a reason. Deporting someone still goes through due process. I don't really know why this has lasted so long.
The charter, this country or this bullshit?
This foolish country and it's incessant bullshit walk hand in hand. It was forced on us long ago by the courts that a foreigner in the country, even illegally, gets the same full access to the appeal system that anyone born here does. There's no such thing as a "simple" deportation to be had. I think Stephen Harper tried to fast-track expulsions of POS's like this guy but the usual forces started shrieking "racism!" at him and put a rapid stop to any of those changes.
This SOB might not get his $34 million in prize money but he'll certainly soak us for millions in legal costs just to get rid of him. And after that he'll probably casually fly back in to Canada without being stopped by the authorities just so the same process with him can start all over again.
