Five new green energy collaborations between private companies and Alberta First Nations are expected to create 1,000 jobs and enough renewable electricity to power nearly 300,000 homes.
Homeowners with solar panels are 'giving their excess power to the grid for free' after government closes energy payment scheme
The Business Department has announced the closure of the 'export tariff' It currently pays householders for excess power that is fed back into the grid Opponents warned that ending the tariff would leave householders who install panels from April having to give away their power to energy companies free

Its not a make-work jobs program its an energy program that just happens to employ 1000 people. They didnt spend the money to employ people it to generate green energy.

Dont follow martins lead hes got the worst instincts and hes never right. It's still $1.2 million dollars per "job created" thats the simple math. Why are we spending so much, where are they working? Space?. Green Energy or not there is better ways to spend 1.2 billion dollars,
Sure, they could offer to buy $1.5 billion of Elon Musk's giant batteries if he built them in Blairmore or Coalmont. Create jobs, revive a town and maximize those huge windfarms.

What is the lifetime of the equipment? To know if it's of value, you have to know how long these people will be employed. Is 50 years enough for that 1.2 Million? Will wages, taxes, profit on the power produced cover the cost?
Plus, it's 1000 direct and non-spinoff jobs, when we need jobs.

Solar panels never last more than 20 years, so you can cut your math by more than half.
Government paid for or sponsored jobs are just not jobs. It simply more tax payer money being shoveled around.
Imagine, spending government money, to give to a worker, so to deduct some of that government money, to give back to the government, to make it look like someone has a job.
Nice levels of circular stupidity, with the taxpayer picking up the bill.

Most of the projects are wind power. Alberta is a crappy place to set up solar farms. But the calculation is still true. Companies don't enter into projects like this unless they generate profit.
And Alberta did the opposite of Ontario, we had a power auction about a year ago, and the winners were mostly renewable companies whos' price drove the price per kilowatt down.

What an incredible waste of money.
It's like Ontario levels of stupidity.

Well it's not that good, you have to factor in the cost overrun of 100-200 million,
and the $300 million will get 'lost' doing the paperwork.
But some Ontario chumps who also love the $50billion gas theft think this is a good idea.

By stealing money from every taxpayer, to give to a few.
Government programs with government subsidies.... don't work.
They don't work because they distort the market.
If the companies only show up when the government hands out the money,
it's because they can't do it with prices in the marketplace now.
And it will never result in a lower price for the people.
