I saw this one the night before it opened and I was pleasantly surprised. Diane lane stars as Jennifer Marsh, a member of the FBI’s cyber crime task force. Most of her work involves tracking down pedophiles and other web bandits. Then she is informed of a website where people can influence how fast the victim on the site dies, simply by logging on. Somehow, the person behind the website is able to stay one step ahead of the FBI by mirroring the website internationally. The killer strikes again and again, each victim dying in a more gruesome fashion. Eventually, he is alerted to Marsh’s efforts and she too becomes a target. A lot of the movie seems like been there done that, but it offers a few interesting twists on a tired genre and generally keeps the pace fast enough to keep you from falling asleep. While the outcome is predictable, the story is interesting enough to keep you watching.
