Donation Info
Many web sites have, servers and Internet bandwidth donated by it's members. We pride ourselves on being run and owned as a community, and not by a few power-hungry members. This means that we need you to be a part of that community. We encourage every member to contribute to the community in any way that they can. Since we do not have our servers or bandwidth donated, we have pay our bills every month to keep things going. For those of you who can, we ask that you make a monetary contribution in whatever denomination you'd like. Every little bit counts.
Canadaka.net has grown a lot in the past few years, I thank all that were along for the ride and have helped make this site great! Some older members might remember around this time last year, the site being pretty slow and unreliable. Back then the site was just hosted on my own server on my home Telus line. That had to change, so i got a shared reseller account at a hosting company. So for the last year things have been pretty good, was able to pay the hosting fee with money from banner ads. But now the site has grown and is starting to slow down again, I have reached all my limits with the current hosting plan.
So I have decided to get a dedicated Rack Server, and put it in co-location in a server farm. This means Canadaka.net will have its own server won't be sharing with others, and will be a much faster connection, I will also not have to worry about disk space, so can offer more downloads. I am buying a Rack Server off eBay to save money. Actually i have already won a bid on one and got a great deal! But as many of you know I am a poor full time college student, I can't really afford to do this, but it has to be done to keep the site growing. That�s why I come to you to help out and donate some cash to pay for the new server.
The Co-location fees will be about $380 a month!, which the banner adds won't be able to cover, but that's not the huge concern, paying off the new server is. So please if you like this site, want to help out, see it grow, want faster speeds, more features, then DONATE!

Canadaka.net is already outgrown the above rackserver! its running at 100% CPU usage almsot all the time.
So in a couple months will need a new server to replace it, and sell the current one.
A new server will cost A LOT, has to be pretty decent, something that can more than handle the load, with room to grow.
Below is an example server i can get off eBay for around $3000. So keep the donations coming in! all donations will go into the new server fund!

Greetings Canadaka.net visitors.
Over the last year the site has grown a lot, last spring it outgrew its shared hosting and I purchased a basic 1.4GHz 512mb ram rack server which the site has been run on since. But the last couple months you may have noticed the site getting slower and slower. it once again has outgrown what the server can handle. So in order to keep the site growing and make a faster better experience for all visitors I have to buy a new rack server. A server that is adequate to run this site with room for growth is not cheap! I have been looking for the last couple months and finally found an amazing deal on eBay and just bought it! the server is:
- 2 X 2.4Ghz Xeon 533FSB (Dual CPU\'S)
- 4 X 512MB DDR ECC (total 2GB)
- Supermicro motherboard X5DLR-8G2+ and 1U rackcase
- 2 X 73GB U-320 SCSI 15,000 RPM Top of the line hard drives
The total retail price I calculated is $4700, but I got it off eBay for $2300 including shipping and warranty, so a great deal. But I had to use money out of my pocket, when I have already poured so much money(for hosting and previous rack server) and time into this site. I love working on this site and making it better and bigger, but it shouldn\'t come out of my pocket.
