Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this forum and I'm sure glad I found it! Last week, I thought I was the only one boycotting the census and then decided to do a Google search on it as my wife and I were becoming a little agitated by the census guy coming to our door every few days. Anyway, the point is their are tonnes of others out there like myself who are doing the same thing as we all are, we just haven't heard from them yet. As it stands right now we are just going to wait it out and not answer the door. See if he does anything desperate. Good thing is we have his name now--he still doesn't have ours...and niether does Lockheed Martin. We'd like to keep it that way.

Our local (Alberta) newspaper reported this week that somewhat above 20% of Albertan households are in non-compliance. And that each person not counted represents a loss of almost $2500/year in fed-prov. transfers.
So I'm guessing that der Kleiner is the reason my nagger was back at my door today after a 3-week layoff.
Anyone been fined yet? Threatened? Jailed?
Or am I still in the running for first?
e.p.1

20+ percent of Albertans not in compliance would be twice the B.C. rate (Action Jackson's figure posted Saturday, July 08 for B.C. - 10%). I wonder what Quebec and Ontario are batting?

Had a second visit today from a StatsCan employee, this time a 'higher up'. Again he claimed no knowledge of Lockheed Martin's involvement in the census, but at least this guy knew who they were as a company. He tried to go into the old - "there are penalties and fines including jail blah blah blah". I told him I look forward to whatever may come my way, but until then I still refuse until absolutely ordered by a court of law to comply.

Something fishy though and that was his response to my reason for not complying with the request to do my census. I've worked around enough lying criminals to know when someone is sheltering the whole truth, and he seemed to be doing just that. I think they might have been coached to act like it is the first time they have heard such a refusal. Of course to make people feel isolated and alone. Nice try...

My moral compass says LM's involvement is wrong, and I'm going to see this through to whatever end may come my way.

This just keeps getting better, or worse,

http://www.cbc.ca/canada/edmonton/story ... berta.html

"There are 500 vacancies in Alberta. Dixon said Statistics Canada will likely bring in hundreds of people from Manitoba and Saskatchewan to fill the spots. That means paying for their transportation and accommodation.

"The longer we go without these forms, we are spending more money, we have more staff costs, and we're out in the field for longer and longer," said Dixon."

Good God, this Dixon bitch needs to become unemployed, ASAP. Yet more of my tax dollars being wasted. I bet they end up being put up in the Delta Bow Valley or the Marriot. For some reason Stats Can seems to be very Naziesque about the census this time. They are making threats a lot more than I ever remember, why?

As an Albertan I get a kick out of how pathetic stats can is when they say Alberta will lose out on transfer payments, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!! No you stupid fucking cow, we give YOU transfer payments, our province gives, why the fuck should I care about getting transfer payments? How about letting Aberta keep all our resource revenue, hmmmm? At least if we decide to seperate we will do it, not piss around like the frogs and lose our balls when the time to vote oui comes.

"The census determines Canada's population, tracks labour market activity, immigration and migration between the provinces. It also determines how much money provinces get from the federal government for health care, education and social services."

Keep your hands off Alberta resource revenue. Please explain to me why you need to know my name? Knowing what my name is has no effect on the improvement of government services (improvement of government services, yea right,hahaha.). Still have not had anyone come round to "remind" me of why I "must" fill out the census. I really hope I don't get anyone round because I really don't trust myself not to become a thug. An earlier poster said they had a census tosser banging on their door, I would have loaded my gun, opened the door and asked politly for them to leave and to stop banging on my door. I would have had my wife videorecord the whole situation. Just a suggestion, if you have a video camera then tape all your encounters. My guess is that census workers would become violent and assault you. "You can't record me!" If someone is banging on your door then turn the camera on, open the door and then see what happens, my guess, they lunge at you. I think if a few videos of census workers being rude and or violent get out to the media then this census bullshit will really blow up in sats cans face.

Fascinating, Ms. Dixon's statements in this CBC census-piece.

I wonder if we shouldn't all try to sign on.

I could do with a couple of weeks in Banff. Hotel and three squares paid. Since GovCan owns the Upper Hotsprings, I'm sure they'd throw in a daily hour's soak at dawn.
Only downside I can think of is the possibility she might be so disgusted with my production she'd make me walk home.... .. And I'm afraid of bearss!

e.p.1

We have proven that together we are strong, and we will stand up for what is right.

We know our values:
- Wars of non-violent resistance, but no killing wars.
- we do not participate in imposing our will on other people, especially when at root is the enrichment of our society at the expense of others.
- we die if the environment around us dies.

Now is the time to declare victory on this skirmish and to move, en masse, to join other battles.

Choose the one you will. Every battle strengthens our communities. The ONLY way we will successfully defend our water resources against American appetite is if we are well informed, independent of the mainstream media. And working together. Pitch in for other people's battles. So they will be there to pitch in when the crunch comes for you. Rest assured: it WILL come for you, too.

Start to inform yourself about NAFTA. Is it beneficial to us? Canada can withdraw, giving 6 months' notice. I suspect that we need to begin creation of the critical mass that will demand we end our participation. That can only be done if we know what we're talking about.

The most life-determining issue today is global warming. We've been effective in making a statement about complicity with war-mongers. What are we going to do about global warming?

Instead of fretting about what Stats Canada is going to do to us, I suggest that we move on to bigger battles with our enlarged muscles!

Join the other groups at Vive le Canada. And/or, send me an email. You are welcome to participate in "our network" that has no name or web-site. It's an activist email network based on the premise that information is empowering.

Cheers!
Sandra

well i live in sw ontario, i received in my mailbox a letter that was not even in an envelope . handwritten on it was final notice, i never recieved a first notice that i know about. also the lines that say response options were scribbled across, both of them as though to indicate some other type of response is requested.
hrrrm interesting isnt it.

Oh well, on a personal note my reasoning against this thing is not what lockheed martin does but WHO and WHERE they are i dont want my records accessible by US authorities which it would be if they so desired. I dont like the fact that it was subbed to a NON Canadian company, I really despise the questions on this long form. This is a TRUE invasion of privacy, and much of the information is already on file with many different levels of govt institutions anyways, let them figure it out themselves. Why dont they ask how long womens menstral cycle lasts or how many times men have suffered erectile disfunction, or whether anyone in the household shaves their pubic hair.

now no one ever said tho that it is against the law to have your child fill out the form with a FAT magic marker did they? while under your direction of course.

Interesting...Isn't it illegal to put mail into a box without putting a stamp on it and having it go through our postal system?
something that worked for me:

the "collections" Census worker came to my door. I smiled, apologized and told her that it was a matter between me and the head of Stats Canada, Ivan Felligi. I know she has a job to do, and I don't want to interfere with what she's getting paid to do.

She said that she needed a signature on a particular page of the form. I said fine. And wrote my name across the page. She asked, "What's the name of that fellow, so I can tell my supervisor?". I wrote Ivan's name below mine across the page.

The Census worker was satisfied and went on her way. Indeed, my issue (that tax dollars are going into the coffers of Lockheed-Martin Corporation. A form of silent collaboration with war.) has nothing to do with this woman who probably needs the money for her family.

Don Rogers over at CountMeOut.ca mentioned via email that a few press reports are getting out which suggest that StatsCan is in big trouble this census, having to deal with the highest percentage of refuseniks, plus all of the minimum cooperators. He heard that there are 400,000 unreported returns in B.C. alone. The Montreal area also seems to be a particularly tough area for Statscan.

People continue to email me with strategies they're using to deal with StatsCan employees and even several people saying they have refused to fill it out for years with no consequences. Many people being pestered to fill in the forms, but no one has reported actual charges just yet, although it could happen.

Is it too much to hope that perhaps there are so many people boycotting StatCan is afraid to press charges and ignite the firestorm of controversy that could be brewing?

It seems to work to be polite but firm, and if pressed to fill out only a few questions on the form (and in that case I recommend using the comments to address the Lockheed Martin issue).

Also getting occasional nibbles from the press ourselves.

Once it was decided that Canada was to be a branch-plant society of American capitalism, the issue of Canadian nationalism had been settled.--George Grant
http://www.newswire.ca/en/releases/arch ... c9488.html

This is just getting ridiculous, why won't they just take the hint and fuck off?

"Beginning in August, Statistics Canada will prepare documentation for the
Department of Justice identifying those households that have not completed a
census form. Upon their review of the files, the Department proceeds with
prosecution of refusal households."

What? Excuse me? How much of my tax dollar are these assholes going to waste? It was bad enough when that Dixion bitch said they were going to bring hundreds of people to Alberta and put them up in hotels, now they want to use police time to go after census refusers? JESUS F****** H C*****!!!!! Maybe they can make room in all the jails for us by letting all the child molestors and rapists out on day release, wait a minute, they already do that so they can put pot smokers in jail, sorry, my mistake. I wonder if Stephen Harper want mandatory minimums for people who refuse to fill out the census? Charge me, PLEASE, I soooo want to take these pricks to court, waste even more tax dollars. People wonder why violent thugs roam the streets. My guess, cops are to busy tracking census refusers, is this the future?
