So even if you explain Putin as sane, is there any way that he can retreat without losing face? So what's left to do but hope that saner minds will prevail. There are a lot of people on the Russian side taking a stand against the war this implies that the iron fist is losing it's grip which doesn't bode well for him being able to save face. If the screen shots the Ukrainians released are to be believed the Russian force was told that they would be received as saviours. So if that's how Putin saw it the plan started out flawed. That also implies he's losing touch with reality. If he's not sane there isn't any way that this will end well.

I would have to refer you back to Beau. Putin has played his cards, this is about power and returning Russia to its former glory of a superpower. Anything short of that in the eyes of a 70 year old man will not do. He is what they call a dead ender, there is no negotiations with that. The only way you change that is by force, Russia economy and military needs to be decimated, it's either that or the Russia people rise up in a coup. That doesn't seem likly right now as it is early days still but as the economic sanctions bite and people are starving in the streets that may change.

Trump was openly doing favours for Russia right from the minute he announced his campaign in 2015. The 2016 RNC before the election was full of lobbyists working for the Russians, currying favour with Trump and his scummy assistants. He then got rid of as many US sanctions he could, the ones the Obama admin had put on Putin for both the Crimea annexation and for shooting down that Malaysian airliner flying over Ukraine. Then Trump went to the serious work of destabilizing NATO as much as he could from within with all the idiotic threats about the US leaving the alliance and the "when you gonna pay us back for defending you?!?!?" nonsense. He constantly went to bat for Russia as well at all the G7 meetings, whining and clawing as much as he could to get Russia readmitted into the group. Trump's finisher on Ukraine was in the 2020 election, when he demanded they open up an investigation on his behalf into Hunter Biden. When they didn't give in to them he smeared the already in progress Ukrainian investigation into the younger Biden as "corrupt" and then started threatening them with all sorts of assistance and military aid cut-offs if he were to be re-elected.

Every single one of his actions over the last seven years has been for the benefit of Vladimir Putin. That's because Donald Trump is a Russian asset and has been for decades.
