Ukraine will now defend Lysychansk, and make Russia pay for every inch. Until US Artillery units arrive, and then Russia will leave feet first.
It is important to note that Russia is infantry poor but armor and arty rich. The Ukrainians are making them pay for every inch and anything being taken is because they smashed it into baby food so that the Russian army can hold it but anything of worth will have been smashed to pieces. This has diminishing returns and the firepower advantage the Russians have is closing:
Are Russian artillery barrels at end of life?Air power is not decisive enough to fill this gap so the Russians have at best the summer to push as hard as they can. The Ukrainians know this and are going to counterattack on the areas the Russian can't push on. The next month looks to be the bloodiest yet.
