Robert,
I just read this in a Documentary Film Making book. This sort of hits the point I tried to make regarding Michael Moore documentary. I know I said I didnt want to go in detail of what parts of Micheals film was manipulative. But while reading this book this quote I thought was relevant to this topic. Quote: Barry Hampe. "The opening scene of the film, as I recall, showed a lot of sixteen-year-olds, dressed up, looking very somber. The boys looked sad, the girls seemed on the verge of tears. I think this was used without comment as the title background. Although nothing was said, certianly the visual evidence of the footage was that being a teenager at this place at this time was a pretty serious thing. After the film was shown on TV, the charge was made by residents of the town that this scene had been filmed at the funeral of a classmate. I donèt know whether thatès true or not, and for my purpose it really doesnt matter. My point is, if a documentarian takes a scene like this out of context and uses it as evidence to give a false impression, thatès lying on film." Kevin P.S......Sorry for some of the mistakes in this text. Ièm using a computer that is set to type in french or something, and I donèt know how to change it.
