Robert,

I just read this in a Documentary Film Making book. This sort of hits the point I tried to make regarding Michael Moore documentary. I know I said I didnt want to go in detail of what parts of Micheals film was manipulative. But while reading this book this quote I thought was relevant to this topic.

Quote: Barry Hampe.

"The opening scene of the film, as I recall, showed a lot of sixteen-year-olds, dressed up, looking very somber. The boys looked sad, the girls seemed on the verge of tears. I think this was used without comment as the title background. Although nothing was said, certianly the visual evidence of the footage was that being a teenager at this place at this time was a pretty serious thing.

After the film was shown on TV, the charge was made by residents of the town that this scene had been filmed at the funeral of a classmate. I donèt know whether thatès true or not, and for my purpose it really doesnt matter. My point is, if a documentarian takes a scene like this out of context and uses it as evidence to give a false impression, thatès lying on film."

Kevin

P.S......Sorry for some of the mistakes in this text. Ièm using a computer that is set to type in french or something, and I donèt know how to change it.

Takin issues and using them out of context is common place.

The Vancouver Stanley Cup Riot:

The media coverage showed one second bits from various locations.Impossible for the watcher to gain any actual insight.

The Riot in my opinion started as the Vancouver police decide to start assaulting bystanders, as the Ambulance was departing with the Guy whom fell from the wires.

They got an increased budget, all was as it should be.

Dennis Baker
