With the recent televisation of the world series of poker by espen and tsn, the poker scene in this country, the us, and world wide has exploded. The fact that at any given time of the day you can a poker show on tv, and the advent of both the Canadian, and European poker tours.

I love the game. I generally stick to the Cadillac of poker.... no limit Texas Hold 'em, but I am eager to learn as many of the different games as I can. Games such as Pan, Big 2, Omaha, Guts, and 7 Card Stud I find to be througholly facinating.

The birth of an infinite number of websites that promote the game is tribute to the fastest growing sport in North America. The best part about it is that all of the websites I have found have a play for free section, so you don't have to spend a penny to experiance the rush of taking down a big pot, a huge bluff, or just to tweak your game.

If you're bored one night I suggest you check out

http://www.partypoker.net/index_can.html

http://tigergaming.com/indexf.html

http://pokerstars.net/

They are the cream of the websites I have found so far, and offer great options on different games to try.

If you want tips on how to play try

http://www.tightpoker.com/

Please use this thread to share your favorite hands, best beats, worst beats, or anything general you have to say about poker, love it or hate it, it's been around in a lot of forms for centuries and will be for centuries to come.

If you are into poker, and want to talk about it with others, try visiting the forums at http://www.mygreenchip.com/pub/index.php

It's an invite only forum, here's your open invite for all canadaka members. If you decide to register, go to the new members area, and tell them Vic Vega sent you, and that you found out about it through the canadaka website.

This thread doesn't appear to be going to far here so if you are into the poker scene try either saying something here (preferable), or go there and share your opinions.

Happy gaming everyone.

Well curling, darts, and pool are considered sports, and generally you do them drunk. I think if it appears on TSN or ESPN it's fair to call it a sport.

No, playing cards is not a sport.

What makes you say that? Just because there isn't some kind of ball or puck involved?

Sport: a physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.

Game: an activity providing entertainment or amusement; a pastime

A sport requires a certain level of fitness and physical exertion. I don't consider being able to sit up at a table and stacking chips a display of physical prowess and skill.

That is what makes the game so popular.

Any fat ass or over the hill athlete can win a hand now and then and get a rush. Its 95% luck, the skill is making the most of it when you have the best hand.
