This is a very interesting idea. Just as the U.S has corporations making money through war, there could be corporations making money through peace. What could they manufacture for a peace market?

Kevin

I meant my remarks as a retort to the comment about communism, nothing more, they certainly weren't meant to disillusion anybody. Because of my personal religious beliefs I don't get disillioned, so I'm not a good judge of guarding my comments. Mass executions require immense organization, that's partly why I"m so anarchist and prone to distrust orgranization in general. Death can only happen to a person once, it takes an instant, yet life lasts, well, however long it lasts. I take a great deal of 'illusionment' from that, hopefully others will to.

For that comment on tools for peace that's quite easy since they are the modern tools for life. I just watched a video on Schumacher, who breaks technology into levels. At a lower level technology is used as a tool to make life better and employ people constructively, when you get to a higher level, it begins replacing people. All of those lower technology tools are ones of peace, but of course it depends how you use them. Sewing machines can be used locally to make clothes, and as a 'preserve junkie' I have a lot of tools that are peaceful as they mean I can limit the amount I am reliant on the oppressive means of production we have for getting our food. In today's climate I would peg anything that means you can limit your purchasing proclivities is 'peaceful'. Bartering groups, local charities, co-ops, even games that bring a family closer together (I would even include 'some' video games in there, though certainly not all). An idea just popped into my head of either an email list or even a thread where people can write about such things they've done to limit their 'footprint' may be a useful tool. There's nothing like the smugness of doing right to keep you motivated. A little healthy 'goodness' competition may be helpful too!
