I mean, it is legal for two consenting adults to engage in sexual activity in exchange for payment.
Nope. Consentual sex is OK, but as soon as payment of any type is involved, that's solicitation for the purposes . . .and illegal.

That being said, if prostitution or rather, sexual therapist, were to become a proper profession instead of relegated to the alleyways, I think it would be better for everyone.

There will always be the desperate people who will still see the alley as there only mans of income, but many more will see benefit from it.

Well, at least one B.C. MLA is fighting the good fight (in my opinion that is). Liberal Sheila Orr is calling for a strip of road in Victoria to be made a legal prostitution area.

I have absolutely no problem with prostitution being legalised. I think they should have designated areas, be discreet about it & have licenses, etc to keep the parts of town they work from looking seedy or whatever, and to reduce the spread of stds & stuff. It would be even better to have a union so the workers could have more rights & so on.

I'm not saying I promote prostitution any more than I would promote the use of alchohol; all I'm saying is that people should be safe & responsible.

^^ where in Victoria is the strip of road going to be made a legal prostitution area? maybe I'll check it out...

In Mexico where it is legal , red light areas are located far from any residential areas, something which would be easy to do in Canada.
They should not only be unionised, but should have all the benefits of the labour code , both federal and provincial.Provisions should be made to help them work their way into other occupations when they get too old to continue what is basically a young persons option, including support for any needed education.
They could then indulge in public relations exercises like donations to women's shelters , homeless shelters and Timmy's telethon, with much publicity, making it much harder for anyone to condemn them. This is something that groups of them should be doing now.
Unfortunately both those who make the laws and those who enforce the laws , and judges, are the ones benefiting from the current sex slave situation, and thus would be extremely unlikely to want to change it.
Currently hookers are afraid to tell us about their being sexually abused by judges, as judges are their most profitable customers, and are largely immune to such accusations anyway.
Brent
Those forced into sexual slavery from abroad should be given landed immigrant status in echange for tesitfying against their snakehead masters. Italy has already done this with great success.
Brent

“They should not only be unionised, but should have all the benefits of the labour code , both federal and provincial.”

Now there’s material for a Monty Python skit if I ever saw one!

The Ministry of Sex for dollars, a sliding scale for various types of erotica

Every aspect measured, graded and standards to be set

It blows me a way that a site such as vive where there is so much bitching about government interventions has posters who mental acumen is restricted to a legislate and tax mentality.
By being outside the protection of the legal industry. prostitutes are often sex slaves who can be beaten and abused, sometimes even murdered in any way that any wierdo wishes without fearing any consequences. They are virtually second class citizens , denied the equality rights supposedly guaranteed in the constitution. It is thus understandable why wierdos who like to beat abuseand sometimes kill young girls, lobby to keep things the way they are.
Such disgusting cowards hide behind anonymity, not having the huevos to make such statements in the open, orto get in the ring.
When anyone supports maintaining the current regime , it poses the question, "What is his motive." Then answer is self evident.
Brent
