Even in Montreal there is a LOUD cheer when the Leafs score. Leaf fans out number all NHL fans anywhere. It's a fact man. Get used to it!! The Leafs ARE the NHL!!! No they don't have as many cups as Montreal but they are still the favourite team in the NHL!! Period!!

So that makes Montreal one of the most hated teams in the NHL. That's the rules. If you're a Leaf fan, you hate the Habs!! Can't have one without the other brother!!!

Isn't that funny... guess we should all bend down and kiss the asses of our Toronto overlords.. We should all be thankful that the maple leafs exist... ya okay whatever... If Toronto ever gets an NHL team call me.. You guys had one in the 1960's and in the early 90's you guys had one too. The stuff in Ottawa with the mayor was a tongue in cheek joke... and why not if it can better the foodbank in an area.. great Job.
Montreal is not hated because thier team and fans are for the most part classy..(except of course when the booed the US national anthem a couple of years ago.. that was truely unclassy). When you look at most of the players that wore the rouge blanc et blue you see the class of the organization.
They were and are a a classic team and have won the cup at least once in each decade since the 70's.
If your a leafs fan you hate the habs... Why because for years upon years they schooled your asses.. history bites doesn't it....
If your a habs fan you hate the leafs enough said.. but don't make it out like every arena everywhere are filled with Toronto or closet Toronto fans. Hockey survived without the NHL for a year and a half... and If it all the leafs blew away tomorrow.. I'm quite certain the NHL ,as well as the fans would get over losing Toronto ... Hell at least Hamilton would have a chance at an NHL expansion team.. since Toronto and Buffalo keep blocking thier applications...

A year ago, the Leafs had Nieuwendyk and Roberts and Alexander Mogilny and Owen Nolan and Brian Leetch and Tie Domi -- all of them real pros -- on a team that wasn't considered good enough.

I would also seem that the new contract hasnt brought player salaries down all that much.

Iginla will get 7 mill a year, Naslund 6 mil, Gonchar 5 mill, Kovalev 4.5 mill, and these are all multi-year deals and Gonchar is signed for 5 years.

key is in toronto you had to buyout more players.. or at least get rid of some of the higher end players that still have contracts... Belfour, Sundin etc etc etc.. dropping leetch helps Robert and Joe N..(didn't feel like spelling his last name .. although this is certainly longer).. should have bought out Mogilny and perhaps a few others.. then you would have had room to operate with... Look at philly....Definately think the leafs could still get hamrlik and maybe a few others.. Luckily Nolan total doesn't count towards the cap....

The Flyers signed Forsberg but must now trade down to stay under the cap. With some of the big deals lately I wonder if more teams will be in the same predicament.

I'm wondering if the Leafs are taking a wait and see approach to things. There are quite a few other teams that haven't made any big moves yet.

I guess we will have to wait and see.
