The
Magna Carta
If we take a more objective view of popular history we might achieve a very different picture of the reason for the signing of the Magna Carta.

For instance, who, could answer the following:

Which Prince of France, invaded Britain with his great army, and was crowned King of England in London?

No, not Duke William of Normandy. Nor is it a trick question. It happened, and he was King for almost a year and isn't even mentioned in the Roll Call of English kings.

While you ponder that, here's another example of slanted history. Let's take a look at, some say, the fiendish Prince John, the lovely Maid Marion, the equally beautiful Robin Hood, and, not forgetting, of course, the dastardly Sheriff of Nottingham (boo, hiss, etc) and the dawn of enlightenment and freedom represented by the Magna Carta. Never was a buckler more swashed in days of yore.

The Magna Carta is a fact, it really does exist, several of them. One now rests in the archives of Lincoln Cathedral, and in Salisbury, and other places. The history of the evolution of the Magna Carta in AngloNorman England has been shrouded by romance but it is often referred with sufficient vagueness as a sort of " statement of human rights", "freedom", "liberties" and "equality" document, or a constitutional forerunner, representative of the freedom from oppression of the 'the common people'. The U.S constitution may be termed to have been created by a revolution from oppression and in some ways modelled after the Magna Carta. But the ancient Magna Carta may have been a conspiracy to conquer from within, promoted from outside the country.

Let's take a quick realistic peek at the way things may have been in a world less tinctured with rose colored glasses.

Many sites on the Web will give you the admirable content of the Magna Carta. Click on to Alta Vista at "Magna Carta" when you have time. Lot's of time. But read this first.

Now the reality. History did not treat King John well. Whichever way we relate to it now, the Magna Carta was born of a complex revolution, probably resulting from a well planned and massive French/Scottish invasion of England, which had many different interests at its essence, religious power, royal prerogatives, national and international greed, upper class avarice, avoidance of tax and obligations, and many other vicissitudes of powerful men. The needs of the common folk, mostly the still landless AngloSaxon, were way down the list, may never have appeared, even in fine print. And anyway, the persecution of the 'common folk' or peasantry was more on the backs of the rebellious Norman Barons who were their liege lords, rather than personally by King John, or John Lackland, as he was known.

The episode started with Richard the Lion Heart (he couldn't have been known as Richard 1st because nobody knew whether there'd be another Richard). Richard sold the three northern counties of England to the King of Scotland for 10,000 crowns and took off to the Crusades, a good investment at the time, as the Knights Templar later proved. He, in his own time, was a bit of a rake. He had departed the scene, thereby diminishing royal power and reducing his responsibilities in light of total baronial unrest and an almost bankrupt country. Nominally he was still King but most historians agree he would not have been a suitable candidate as a King of England for a variety of reasons. But he was rightful heir to the throne, being his father's first born. Fortunately, most of his reign after his corontation was in abstentia, for one reason or another.

Richard had a young nephew and presumed heir, Arthur. He also had a younger brother, Prince John, eventually to be King John. Both were rapscallion sons of Henry II. John was the same despotic Prince John who was character assassinated, along with the Sheriff of Nottingham, and gave us the legendary 'Robin Hood', an Oscar winning movie, and its many remakes. Robin, incidentally, started the whole concept of taxation in general, and it, somehow, got all tangled up with the wonderfulness of the Magna Carta, democracy, motherhood and apple pie. Robin's socialist theme of taking from the rich or taxable and giving to the poor, noble though it was, somehow backfired on us. Now we're all taxed. Hand me the Kleenex, Lizzie
Justice, Law, and the Just Society
9.2.3
Read the following quotations. In groups, reflect on the quotations and
discuss your vision of a “just” society.
“The Just Society will be one in which all of our people will have the means and the
motivation to participate. The Just Society will be one in which personal and
political freedom will be more securely ensured than it has ever been in the past.
The Just Society will be one in which the rights of minorities will be safe from the
whims of intolerant majorities. The Just Society will be one in which those regions
and groups which have not fully shared in the country’s affluence will be given a
better opportunity. The Just Society will be one where such urban problems as
housing and pollution will be attacked through the application of new knowledge and
new techniques. The Just Society will be one in which our Indian and Inuit
populations will be encouraged to assume the full rights of citizenship through
policies which will give them both greater responsibility for their own future and
more meaningful equality of opportunity. The Just Society will be a united Canada,
united because all of its citizens will be actively involved in the development of a
country where equality of opportunity is ensured and individuals are permitted to
fulfill themselves in the fashion they judge best.”
~ Pierre Elliott Trudeau, former Prime Minister, Official Statement by the Prime Minister, “The Just
Society”, June 10, 1968
“We are creating the kind of society where the criminal is out of jail before his
victim is out of hospital.” ~ Richard J. Needham, Canadian writer and humourist
“Law is not justice and a trial is not a scientific inquiry into truth. A trial is the
resolution of a dispute.” ~ Edson Haines, former judge of the Supreme Court of Ontario
“Canada’s legal profession is dominated by rich, old, sexist, white men who
discriminate against women and ethnic minorities.” ~ Conclusion of a
Task Force headed by former Supreme Court Justice Bertha Wilson (1994),
Touchstones for Change: Equality, Diversity and Accountability.
“Due process of law is a very fine shrine, and it is nice to know
that there is a piece of parchment somewhere that says we are
equal before the courts; but for a great many Canadians, the
fine-flowing phrases of the Bill of Rights are not worth the paper
they are written on.” ~ Walter Stewart "But Not in Canada"
to hear courteously,
“A strong and independent judiciary guarantees
that governments act in accordance with our Constitution. Judges give effect to
our laws and give meaning to our rights and duties as Canadians. Courts offer a
venue for the peaceful resolution of disputes, and for the reasoned and
dispassionate discussion of our most pressing social issues. Every judge in Canada is
committed to performing this important role skillfully and impartially. Canadians
should expect no less.” ~ Right Honorable Chief Justice of Canada, Beverly MacLachlan (2004):

“Court services in Aboriginal communities are limited and occasional, beset by delay
and misunderstanding. Aboriginal relations with police forces in all parts of the
province are marked by mutual suspicion. Aboriginal criticism of the justice system
generally has been harsh and pervasive. The need for change was becoming
increasingly apparent.” ~ Aboriginal Justice Inquiry Commission (1999), Manitoba:

Recommendations of the Aboriginal Justice Implementation Commission:
That…
…the federal and provincial governments recognize the right of Aboriginal
people to establish their own justice systems as part of their inherent right
to self-government.
…the federal and provincial governments assist Aboriginal people in the
establishment of Aboriginal justice systems in their communities in a manner
that best conforms to the traditions, cultures and wishes of those
communities, and the rights of their people.
When You Attract Negative People, Be Thankful

(and I am)

Laws of Attraction are clearly defined. What comes back is a reflection of the energy you are radiating. If negative people are being attracted to you, then be self-assured that you are sending out energy that appeared on their radar screen.

Instead of focusing on not trying to attract them. Be thankful you are.

Okay, you say, that might be pushing it a little. Not really. You see, whatever you are attracting is giving you a clear projection of the energy that you are giving off. Or it could be something that you need to heal first in order to clear your energy. Most times, we could not see how we are radiating without this attraction
...when I heard this lady talking to me from the other stall. Actually feeling awkward and caught unaware, it took a few minutes before I could really make out what she was saying. By then, I was walking towards the sink to wash my hands. It wasn't until then did I get the gist of her story, language and negativity. It was a victim story about how the world is out to get her. Let me spare you the details."
How to Deal With Energy Suckers (Negative People)

We all know some; maybe at work or even at home. The Energy Suckers. They will suck you dry if you fall into their trap.

Energy Suckers are negative people. It’s easy to know when you are with them because the longer the exposure, the more drained you feel. You try to avoid them, but Energy Suckers thrive on spreading bad tidings so they seek you out. They show up in your office, at meetings, and family gatherings.

If they call you on the phone, your stomach starts to hurt as soon as you realize who is calling. While you pretend to listen, you are really thinking of a way to get off the phone. In fact you try to return their calls when you know they won’t be at home or at the office. You just want credit for the call; you don’t really want to talk with them.

While you don’t want to join them in the mud, they seem to know when you are vulnerable and try to pull you in. You may even find, to your dismay that you agree with some of what they are saying.

So how do you protect yourself? Here are some of the common types of Energy Suckers and how to deal with them:

The Seagull—These are often managers or supervisors. They fly by when everyone is busy with a project, deposit garbage all over and soar away after destroying enthusiasm. They tend to pick at details like they are combing the beach, making negative comments as they work. They leave staff and co-workers feeling defeated and unappreciated.
Solution: Obtain careful clarification before starting a project. If there has been confusion in the past with this Sucker, you may want to get things in writing.
The Yeh-Butts—While they pretend to be friendly, their real focus is on the negative. They often use the phrase, “Yeh, but…” They then describe why the procedure, idea, or approach couldn’t possibly work. Experienced “Yeh-Butts” extend their method to other areas of life as well. If you mention the great weather, they say, “Yeh, but it’s supposed to rain by the weekend.” If you tell them they look nice, they say, “Yeh, but this dress really isn’t in style anymore.” They are not happy and they want you to know it.
Solution: Ignore Yeh-Butts and their awful phrase. You may want to charge a quarter when ever someone in the office or at home uses the “Yeh, But” phrase.
The Muck Mixers—These are the folks who love to stir the pot. They look for gossip or “information” that they feel they must know and then take it upon themselves to disseminate the dirt. They adore turmoil and conflict and will feed both if given the chance. Muck Mixers often “keep score” and tend to remember obscure information that can hurt others or their reputations. They are sometimes hard to ignore because their information is SOOO interesting.
Solution: Avoid them like the plague or you will also become fodder for discussion. Their lack of productivity will eventually catch up with them. Make sure you are not standing next to them when they go down.
Melvin Milktoast or Dorothy Doormat—These are the male and female equivalents of the Martyr. They are absolutely convinced that no one has seen the trouble they have. No one works as hard as they do. And they are the only ones who do not get a break. They seem to find trouble and then want everyone to know how they fix things at great personal expense. They may try to make those around them feel guilty with their superhuman efforts.
Solution: Let them work. You have worked too hard to have a balanced life to fall for this game.

Stay away from the Energy Suckers in your life. Spend your time with people who lift you up…not pull you down. You will find your own energy to be contagious.

"Legal versus Lawful! What does that mean? You may ask, are they not one, and the same? If something is lawful, does it not follow that it is also legal? The answer is most definitely NO!
We have been misled in many things, and in particular with regards to things that relate to law. However, the blame should not be directed upon those who have perpetrated the fraud. On the contrary. The blame should be directed against us, against ourselves, for allowing it to happen, and to continue to happen. Just as we should not blame government, politicians, and corporations for the things that they do. They can only do what we allow them to do, and remember silence, and inaction equals tacit consent."

Summary:

Three things that influence our lives to a greater extent than all others is, Politics, Law, and Banking (the money system). Yet they are three of the most neglected subjects / topics in our education system. How many students graduating today can recite what their basic rights are? How many can give at least two extracts from the Magna Carta how many could explain the meaning of Habeas Corpus how many people reading this page could explain it?

It is not my intent to write a book here, only to provide some alternative avenues of thought. Individual research, and verification, is the order of the day. The status quo is based both on our choices, and our ignorance. And as they say "ignorance is no excuse in the eyes of the law" Taking the time to become informed, and by not being silent is the only way to change the status quo.
"We serve no one by withholding information. We do not serve ourselves by refusing to investigate.
Lack of information never assisted anyone. Accurate information allows us options; we can choose to take
action based upon it or choose to ignore it, but not knowing does not assist us. So put aside your
preconceived notions, your psychological defence mechanisms, and your prejudices. Take a chance on
remembering what could well grant you complete economic, emotional, and spiritual freedom.
Any “Logics” course will teach that we can have a completely logical system which reaches a logical
conclusion yet it is not true because it is based upon a false premise. The mind seems not to care if it
reacts from something that is untrue as long as it feels certainty. So, the best position from which to learn
is from ‘uncertainty’ – ‘being in the question’.
Can we afford to be so arrogant as to pretend we know something we don’t know the knowing of which
could transform our lives – Werner Erhard
Many people have ruined their lives when they could have prevented it ....
but for want of opening their minds."
