I know there are several beers across Canada that can be described as Regional. I am not talking about small pub micros, but I mean beer that you can buy at the corner liquor store in your neighborhood... Aside from the Molson Canadian and Labbat's Blue, I'd like to hear from people across the country on the type of beer available in their neck of the woods.

Who knows, maybe this list could end up as a dictionary for the Canadian traveller so they can make it look like they're a local despite being in a strange land....errrr province

Here are a couple from Alberta, not sure how available they are in the rest of the country:

Traditional Ale (Just call it "Trad")

My standby from Saskatchewan was Pilsner (count the rabbits!)

Manitoba has Two Rivers and Fort Garry. Both popular with my group. Fort Garry recently bought Two Rivers but I think they will continue to brew that brand. In the recent years here, the Labbatt Plant, the Molson Plant, Agassiz Brewing, and even River City Brewing all shut down. I hope this isn't some horrible trend. Imagine Manitoba running out of beer? People would'nt know what to do with themselves. Bomber games would become quiet events, people would go to tailgate partys and drink bottled water... or worse, wine coolers.

I almost forgot about Great Western in SK. You can actually get Great Western Gold, which is like a malt syrup if you ask me...I'd like to see an American drink a 6pk of GW Gold...

Here that stuff comes in two litre plastic bottles for $5. They sit beside the "Stone Cold"s in the cooler. Heh.

Okanagan Pale Ale here in BC.

We have a fine beer here in Ontario called Creemore Springs Ale. Comes in traditional 341ml bottles and quarts as well. A wonderfully full bodied beer that has a light colour and taste. Back in '83, I spent a winter in Lake Louise and fell in love with Lethbridge Pilsner, unfortunately Molson bought them out and ruined the beer. Molson has done a lot of this...when they aquired Carling O'Keefe, Carling only sold them the label rights to Carlsberg, not the recipe.

Another favourite in the bars out west in '83 was what we called 'High Test'. Get in a good drinking mood and you could be blotto in no time with Labatts Extra Stock! The first one was a tad heavy goin' down, but after that ...well...like drinkin' water.

Right now I am drinking a "Rock Ice" - a cheap Corona knock-off (not available in Canada - thank god).

Upper Canada also brews (ed) some good stuff. Are they still around?? The dark was delicious.
