A Quote from National Post, May 3, 2003
"Mr. Martin is also supportive of Canadian participation in the U.S. ballistic missile defence initiative, which would develop an anti-missile system to intercept nuclear missiles launched by hostile states, namely North Korea."
My comment: Mr Paul Martin should think twice before becomming enchanted with the U.S. Missile defense system. The partiot missiles never worked but cost millions.
All Canadians should know:
Franklin C. (Chuck) Spinney, who was at the Office of the Secretary of Defense from the mid-1970s (retired in 2003) and was active duty Air Force before that.
Mr Spinney, found the US administration is paying too much for weapons systems that do not work, are outdated, and designed for realities of the Cold War. Sending missiles into battle is a great way to test them, granted.
Should Canadian taxpayers pay the cost for developing outdated solutions to compensate for unproductive coercive diplomacy.
Recent attacks have demonstrated western society is vulnerable to asymmetric threats. The Missile defense systems were useless Sept 11. Although the millions were well intended.
Mr Spinney, suggests the US War machine is set up to support Big Business. Trillions of dollars were unaccounted for in Pentagon Audits. So they became unneccessary requrements.
Many CEO's of Defense contractors have had Millions in pay raises since sept 11.
If Mr Martin wants to get out his pistol and play with little boys, he should be aware of what many in the US already know and believe.
Canada is a Peaceful nation, beside a Country with an administration filled with Hawks.

"To percieve victory when it is known to all is not really skillful. Everyone calls victory in battle good, but it is not really good."

Can independant thought and action continue with Canada's new leaders? or will we become another 'lap dog'.
Time will tell.
