Streaker Streaker: I'm still left dumbfounded by the suggestion that contractual obligations trump human rights. I don't believe it does. He wasn't under any obligation to violate anyone other than to kill the enemy. His duty is to report violations to his superiors not run away and hide like a coward.

RUEZ RUEZ: Streaker Streaker: I'm still left dumbfounded by the suggestion that contractual obligations trump human rights. I don't believe it does. He wasn't under any obligation to violate anyone other than to kill the enemy. His duty is to report violations to his superiors not run away and hide like a coward. He claims that, in some instances, his superiors were the ones committing the abuses. Under the circumstances, it is entirely plausible that he had no faith left, rightly or wrongly, in the military's ability to police itself or give his claims a serious hearing.

Well we'll just have to take his word for that. I still think that now that it's been brought up he should return and take his lumps, and make sure that what he knows get's to the right people. I don't like to see human rights abuses any more than you do.

Then you go over their head. There is always someone higher.

Point is he's got 2 hands and feet, healthy, no criminal record, speaks English perfectly and wants to be a Canadian. 90% perfect immigrant. Who gives s flying fuck what the US military wants or thinks? If he was a goddam Cuban deserter you same ppl would be praising him as a fucking hero, not demanding he fill his contractual obligations and fight the system from within.

Comparing this to a Cuban deserter? That's just dumb and makes no sense.

Did he have the proper paperwork? A PR visa, and lived in Canada for 1085 days? Otherwise, you cannot become a Canadian Citizen. Every immigrant or wannabe immigrant has to follow the same rules. You can't make exceptions. He can't be seen as a refugee, as he doesn't come from a country listed as unsafe. Since he is a US citizen, and served in the US military, and deserted that, I'd say he should get the f*ck outta this country, and face his punishment. In his own country. (oooooh, it feels good to say so )

He's only here because he's shirking his duty. I'll bet he didn't give two shits about Canada before he turned coward. Fuck him, let him fry.

This guy is a yellow coward, we have enough of this type in Canada already, so the position has been filled.
Send him home.

$1: Comparing this to a Cuban deserter? That's just dumb and makes no sense.
Tell me how and why. Your reply doesn't make sense. $1: He can't be seen as a refugee A Judge says otherwise. Read the link. A real, qualified Judge who gets paid to judge things. Not a student, a commentator, a plumber, a truck driver. A Judge. And who cares if he stands up and says "Yeah, I really am a yellow-bellied coward"? The Land of The Brave is the one underneath us. This is the Strong and Free. (I must be driving you guys nuts by now.... heeheehee!)

(I must be driving you guys nuts by now.... heeheehee!) The country he comes from is no threat to his life, so I personally think that judge made a mistake. S/He is only human. The CIC has the rules clearly stated in the refugee-visa application set. I really wonder what papers he has to show, immigration wise...
